  • Oregon opens new Matthew Knight Arena

Oregon's new arena, built with NIKE money-

Here are some views of the new, unusual court-
You may have seen the original images released a while back showing the Tinker Hatfield-designed basketball court at the University of Oregon's brand new Matthew Knight Arena, where, from a certain angle, a spectator gets the feeling that he/she is staring up at treetops from the forest floor.

ESPN televised their "Grand Opening" ceremony and it was way, way overboard gaudy and overdone with flaming fire-breathing special effects, dancers, acrobats, -- looking more like an overdone Olympics-Grand opening!!

I got so sick watching it that I had to turn it off...the entire thing -- the arena, the oddball colors, the weird logo that is virtually undecipherable unless you ask someone what it means..
it is a monument to self-indulgence and overblown egotism of the folks in Oregon who think they are deserving of being the center of attention just because they have millions of Nike dollars.....

Given this overindulgence and the silly multi-uniform's of the football team -- it has prompted people to start describing these kinds of silly, selfish, overindulgent displays at oregon as...
    "just Oregon being Oregon"......

I saw some of the game last night (Oregon beat USC) and thought the arena looked like a great venue. The court took a second to get used to, but didn't seem that distracting after a moment or two.

Plus, the Oregon cheerleaders are tops!

USC head coach Kevin O'Neill vents and airs complaints about playing in Oregon's new arena..

he rattles off numerous complaints, not the least of which is...
"O'Neill also had issues with Oregon's unusual Kilkenny Floor...it caused too
much of a glare on television.
But the issue O'Neill had was with the half-court line, which he and others have
        said is barely visible.
"They got to put a center line on the floor," O'Neill said. "They need to paint something
down there because that's going to be hard for officials to deal with
        and even players."

I agree with ONeil, that place is horrible. I tried to watch a game the other night and the floor was so distracting it was ridiculous.

Here is a humorous view provided Fox Sports The College Experiment, Episode 21. Got to minute 9:00 for the comments on the Ducks new court. If you have time, watch the whole episode if you aren't easily offended.

I agree 100% and I have also said that games televised from Redbird Arena have the same problem with the intense glare off that big ugly red bird that they stole from Pleasant Plains HS...
