JD pointed to much of what I would want but...
I want someone who plays big, fast, physical basketball...
I want to trap and press and run teams out of our gym...
I also want to go to the boards hard and beat the holy h*ll out of teams...
I want it to be to the point that when teams leave Carver and Peoria they are sore, worn out, and just plain beat up, and that they always remember going to Bradley and how hard it is to win there!

This isn't grade school, junior high, or high school. This is Division I basketball, a billion dollar business. I want winning, first and foremost. If that's not the priority, we shouldn't be playing Division I.
At Bradley, Jim has done nowhere near enough winning.
Win baby ya gats ta win!!!

Lets be very honest here regarding Bradley Basketball.
The product is incredibly dull. People are finding any reason to stay away from games. Regardless of what BU likes to say on attendance the fact is people are not interested in attending games anymore.
Yes JL and company did win 20 games 2 years ago but you could really start to feel the discontent regarding the program. Last year it got worse and this year is as bad as far as apathy as I have seen with BU well since Albecks last season.
I do not think Jim Les is a bad coach and I do believe he would find another D1 job if he were interested in one. I believe he has earned a lot of respect within the D1 coaching community simply because he is a very hard worker and is very respectful of other coaches.
But he has lost the fan base and I think he has lost the program. When I say that it is purely regarding interest in the program. People do not want to watch 4th place finishes with no chance of winning the conference by Feb 1st. BU has not been anywhere near a conference championship in atleast 4 years.
People do not want to watch loses at home to the EIU's the Western Carolina etc of the world. Injuries have been a very valid issue with Bradley but so has the very mediocure basketball being offered at Bradley.
I would support Bradley and Les if he were given another year. But my preferrence is to move on and bring in a new prospective to the program. It is a very difficult decision because of all the Les has given to this program but sometimes after a long time as the head coach of a program it becomes stale and the time comes to make a change to energize the fanbase.
I have said this multipule times but this season feels exactly like Mo's last season.

I want what Butler, Gonzaga, and Xavier have had over the last 15 years, or something similar.
I think if you look at those private institutions, they have been able to survive coaches moving on. It is hard to win at the level of these programs without a solid, sound foundation.Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

This is a guy who's been allowed to continue without sustaining (he hovered around and may have eclipsed .500 a time or two) a record above .500.What part of illegal don't you understand?

I think we all want what those three have produced....you made a point regarding coaches moving up for me.
We can't have it both ways where we want a coach to not use BU as a stepping stone and get us to the next level...or couple of levels right now...
These schools developed great programs and there is a level of expectation when they moved people up.
If a coach does great here, they will eventually move up...the cupboard isn't bare and the program continues......I think we would love it if we had a winning program......not just one coach who wins

Dan Monson, Mark Few...
Skip Prosser, Thad Matta, Sean Miller...
We are always worried about how long a coach is going to stay, if they build the program right, it doesn't matter.Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

Easy someone who represents the University with class, takes the student athlete part very serious and creates a winning foundation which will help the University with its primary mission. All 3 are very important and need to be balanced. Winning consistently helps a coach achieve the above more easily."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

Originally posted by BradleyJD View PostAs I read the various threads about winning, injuries, state of the program, etc....I thought about what you want in a coach.
These are just some things that came to mind (in no particular order):
1. teaches fundamentals...players shoot, pass, defend well
2. sound defensively....in position, flexible, know the X's and O's
3. gets the most out of or develops players ....growth in skill is obvious
4. good recruiter....team is deep and talent is varied by position.
5. contends for titles (league, tournament, etc)
6. instructs players outside of basketball...ie, being a good student, being a better man, working hard
7. coaches motivate players.........to achieve, play hard, buy in to program
I am sure there are more things you look for, and feel free to add to the list.
In the end, I started wondering.....
How many of these things does Jim do at Bradley?
I just thought this was a good thread to check back on...
