These are just some things that came to mind (in no particular order):

        1. teaches fundamentals...players shoot, pass, defend well

        2. sound defensively....in position, flexible, know the X's and O's

        3. gets the most out of or develops players ....growth in skill is obvious

        4. good recruiter....team is deep and talent is varied by position.

        5. contends for titles (league, tournament, etc)

        6. instructs players outside of basketball...ie, being a good student, being a better man, working hard

        7. coaches motivate players.........to achieve, play hard, buy in to program

All the above is great..... #8 Also NO WEAVE offense

I see nothing wrong with a "stepping stone" coach if he has a good staff of assistant coaches who could take the reins when he leaves.

I would hope that the university has done a season ticket holder analysis to determine:

            1) An age demographic to see the loss of season ticket holders and inflow of new ticket holders. What age, alum or nonalum, etc. The loss of the older age group vs. the rate of influx of 25-45 year old ticket holders.
            2) Is the older demographic (seen the extremely good times with BU basketball) leaving at a higher rate than the influx of new people?
            3) What is the continued mediocrity of the program doing to the new or potential prospects of people bringing in new revenue.

I fear the results would not be good for BU. THINK PROACTIVE NOT REACTIVE...Continued Substandard performance in any BU athletic or academic program is unacceptable.

Time to Move To The Next Candidate! Or we would love to the see the WEAVE again next year. NOT

Yes with those 100 top quality wins you would think the big schools would be knocking down the door to steal Les away from us. I mean he raised all the money for the new facilities, took at team to the sweet 16, has 100 wins over the last 5 years, i cant imagine how we have kept him away from the Big Ten.
              Can we start winning soon?

SRW... you know we want the same thing for BU...I do preffer(sp) we wait till season is done before we line up candidates and wish lists...

it is funny how it seems, to some, to be wrong to make excuses for JL, but its ok to make excuses the other way...

BU kept a coach for 13 years who had a below .500 MVC record.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Over 100 wins in how many chances?

What will the winning percentage over the last 5 years look like at the end of this season?

What has been the general direction the program (and amount of wins) these past 5 years? More wins in the past 5 years, or more losses?

Answer all those questions, and I'm sure you'll find the results of the last 5 years are more incriminating than they are inspiring.

As for the topic of the thread- Midwest roots, enforce player accountability on and off the court, and an excellent talent and work ethic evaluator. I wished it would have been JL, for a while it was, but barring a miracle, it's going to be someone else.

Let's be truthful here...Stowell only fell below .500 in MVC play in his penultimate season. The following year he went 8-8 and was gone. And had just produced an All-American.

This is a guy who's been allowed to continue without sustaining (he hovered around and may have eclipsed .500 a time or two) a record above .500.

                          WINS!!!
                          Better Attendance from those wins
A coach who doesn't believe in the difference between a "Mid Major" and a "Major" school.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!

Got to give credit where credit is due...JL HAS provided wins over the past 5 years prior to this season.

At the same time, with all the wins, has come little other achievement as far as top 3 finishes in MVC regular seasons, or, Conference Titles. Some of the 20 win seasons were due to participating in post season events that weren't available to previous BU coaches, making the 20 win season benchmark less prestigious than in the past. What would have made those post season tourney appearances count more would have been to win either one or them.

The biggest question to me is can this coach take BU to the next level, to rise above the median/average? The impressive recruits, on paper, give him a chance he hasn't had with his previous squads which didn't have as much apparent talent. BUT, this doesn't automatically mean JL can take the program to the next level....Recall with his NCAA team they finished 4th in the MVC and no MVC title....With the weakness of the MVC it will be unlikely a team that finishes that low in the MVC will ever get another NCAA bid without winning the MVC title.

Another issue that is troublesome, how can a 9 year coach have so much trouble communicating/motivating his teams to "buy - in" to what he wants/expects them to do? Why is there so much trouble executing fundamentals, such as setting screens?

Do the rest of the Valley Athletic Programs and Media community have respect for JL's ablity, as the Dean of the MVC Coaching fraternity, to recruit and coach?
Years after JL's coaching days are over, will he be noted/referenced as a top MVC coach?

Do you read what other coaches say? Yes, they have respect for Jim Les as a coach. Ben Jacobson was highly complimentary of JL before and after the game at UNI. And so were Greg Lansing, and many others. But I am sure the JL-haters will say they didn't mean what they said.

But to be very honest, what else are those coaches going to say? Sure they probably like JL. I have no clue how they feel on that matter. But if those coaches were to make negative remarks, then the media frenzy would begin and those coaches know that. As we all know, part of being a college coach is being good with pr. jmho
