Abell's next game is a rematch Friday, 1/7 against Jeffersontown. J-town is the #1 ranked team in the state, and Eastern's only loss was to them in the finals of the King of Bluegrass Tournament. Eastern is ranked #2.

Davenport West HS went to 6-2 with a 52-32 win over Clinton.
Nate West was the game's leading scorer with 18 points.
Wells narrowly missed a double-double when he was pulled early in the fourth quarter with the contest already in hand for West.

Nice story about Nate and the Davenport West win-

Their next game is Friday, 1/7 at Davenport Assumption.

Donivine Stewart and Limestone HS did not play last night.
Donivine has been out with a shoulder injury for the past week. He hopes to play Friday against Washington.
Here is a brief report about Donivine from Greg Stewart of the PJ Star. It's the 4th section-

Anybody know what Nate Wells numbers are now for the season? My unscientific monitoring seems to indicate he may be averaging a double double or near a double double plus (I'm assuming given last year's performance) a whole pile of blocks. I think he's even hitting FTs. Doesn't that seem like the kind of guy, given our problems, that maybe shouldn't redshirt?

The player stats link on this page from the Quad City Times is not accurate-

if someone has time, they could go back through the previous posts on our board and find his scoring totals for their 8 games, but I don't think we have had rebound totals for every game. I think he is leading the team in scoring, and from memory I would guess around 14 ppg, and around 8-9 rpg.

Addressing the Nate Wells not redshirting comment.

We do know that many of our bigs had spectacular numbers in high school. I thought I remembered Sam averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds.

I know AT didn't have gaudy numbers but he played for a good, good team.

So I mean 12 points per game from a 7'1" high school kid playing lame competition?

Does Iowa/QC qualify as "lame" competition? It's not so much the numbers I'm talking about, it's the "never played basketball" and "grew x inches" and went from virtually no points and no rebounds (but a bunch of blocks) in his junior year to a pile of both.

-- Incidentally Sam Singh wasn't a R/S candidate at Bradley and looked pretty good at times as a freshman (maybe better than he did later in his career at least in terms of potential) until his first Bradley injury shut him down.

ok it appears I may be taking the "lame" part back.

Davenport West is in the largest class. The team they play next is ranked 5th in 3A but plays a bunch of 4A teams like West. Davenport is unofficially ranked 17 in 4A.

It is nice to see rapid improvement.

I still don't get the SS traveling and missing layups though...

I found some more accurate stats on Wells

He is averaging 12.4 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game, and has a total of 27 blocks on the season. So Nate Wells is justtttt barely averaging a double-double.

Before Singh got hurt he could jump, he could move and was if not injuried would have been a much bigger contributer especially in the Valley. Those two injuries kept his ceiling pretty much at what he got to his freshman year.

Yeah it is many years ago now and I wasn't as attentive a bradley fan as I am now.. But I remember being impressed with his athleticism as a freshman. I think the injuries have a lot to do with how he turned out.

oh I wondered what Nate Wells averages this season were.

too bad we didn't have 1 thread with all the updates!

That was the greatest idea I have ever had.
