  • Bryant Allen Transferring From Minnesota

He was recruited as a WR for the MN football team and he walked on the basketball team. St. Louis U and SIUC were both hot have him for basketball.
I read a couple of online reports that say he was having some knee issues.. so wants to give up football and concentrate on bball. He also wants to be closer to home.

I never saw him play in HS.. but a friend saw him several times and said he was very good.. extremely quick. Here is the old ESPN bball report on him.

He's coming to ISU and plans to play both. He is already practicing with the basketball squad but will be on a football scholly. He will have to wait a year to play basketball but will be able to play football right away. ISU should have a very good football team next year so he might not miss that much basketball time.

football conditioning and muscle building does not always go well with the quicker muscle requirements of basketball...
There are many examples but the most recognizable would be Everette Pedescleaux who was a higher rated big man/center in Minnesota than was Eric Coleman, but he chose football as his primary sport and was never good at basketball again.

Of all the two-sport athletes we've seen like Dave Winfield, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, even Michael Jordan...etc...there's really never been a successful football/basketball guy.

Julius Peppers was a good role player @ UNC, but I agree; tough double.

One bonus Allen has is that he is a reciever and kick returner and a point guard so speed, speed, speed.

BONUS NUGGET: Hasn't been announced yet but ISU S&C coach is leaving for Tulsa. Denver Johnson (ISU's former fb coach) was hired as the o-line coach when his former player's dad was announced as the new head coach @ Tulsa.

        BIG loss for the program.

Well, I have an even more familiar example for BU fans...
Marcus Pollard....he was a pretty good basketball player and a fine 15-year NFL tight end...

BUT -- both Peppers and Pollard, once they chose football as their primary sport, were really never big threats again on the court...
