Sure, there were a number of areas of improvement and it's clear that the progress did occur in practice during the layoff.

While Detroit is clearly a talented team and will win a lot of games this year, it is also a young team that had clearly lost its shooting legs and was definitely road weary playing its 4th road game in 14 days, playing a team that is well conditioned and in excellent game shape. If they hadn't missed 2 dunks and a half dozen other shots from point blank range, we're not celebrating today.

We open league play against a team that will not have played in 11 days and will be a much more accurate measuring stick than either contest this week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we won both games (and I thought we could very well lose them both). It's good to get off the schneid and enjoy a couple W's but let's also not lose perspective.

While I agree to a point many of us have been quite hard on the Braves and its time to enjoy this win....sure if you go leg an egg at ISU Blue its back to square one but thats a few days away.

Do we still have work to do....alot....but its at least a BIT encouraging as these guys were WAY better then EIU and we all recall how much dissaray we were in then.

I'm still not convinced we aren't a play-in team but i see SOME hope. We have a small margin for error but could have easily folded or lost another lead like we so so many times last year.

I don't know that anyone is losing perspective. I do think people are cautiuosly optimistic which is fine.
BU put together a very good game that was pretty consistent for the whole game on both ends of the floor. No scoring lapse and other than maybe really early in the first half no bad defensive lapse either.
Obviously if we lay eggs the rest of the season then this game didn't mean much....but I think everyone is hoping this game springboards us into a certain level of consistency on both ends...we will have to see.

BU earned this win....it wasn't given to them

Agreed...allthough the title "very impressed" gives the idea we were impressive. We looked good at times and its a step up from what we've all seen so maybe THAT was why the poster was impressed which I understand.

Its a game we SHOULD have won but the way we have performed this year there was NO gaurantee we would.

I also think people have to just remember this team is severly shorthanded and while NOT making excuses put our performances for the rest of the year into perspective.

I thought Detroit was the measuring stick. You guys keep changing your mind, continuing to slide "success" so it is just out of our reach.

That's what I heard too, after the JSU game. I actually thought we couldn't play this way until the 2nd half of the season. Last night we had success. Let's enjoy it and stay hopeful.
What more could you expect from the last 2 games? I was impressed with our 9 & 8 point wins & expected closer games - maybe even losing to Detroit.
I think the Braves players and coaches are using it as a measuring stick to drive THIS team to be as successful as possible. Maybe they're thinking they can compete with anyone in the Valley now. (???) I have no problem with that. We just need to stay humble and beat the teams we should beat, and close out games like last night.

OK, Indiana State game will be the measuring tape for BU this season...

Truth is, no one will know how BU will do in the Valley this year until a couple Valley games are under their belt. ISU (blue) will be a chance for BU to show if it can win on the road in the Valley, vs a team BU didn't exactly dominate last year.

                My only gripe!

Why does every post after a BU win have to turn into a JL adoration session?

Everyone knows players win, or lose, the games. Not the coaches!
Why does every post after a B.U. win have to come with one of the asst.
coaches getting credit for any improvement.

Exactly! Who had the ultimate say in the assistant coaches? Don't tell me Cross and Glasser because that's just BS! Cross may have found Platt, and Glasser may have OK'd the deal and the dough, but ultimately it was JL who said this is a relationship that can work.

Also, kudos to JL for eating the humble pie to make this relationship work.

Not sure where I ever indicated Detroit would be a good measuring stick. They had the potential to be if they played a very good game. They didn't. They weren't.

The bar will always move.... thats the way it is...

point is, a few said after the Jackson game that Detroit would be more of a test to see where we are as a team....

Squirrel...come on man...potential to be a measuring stick if they played a very good game.... really? So we take nothing away from this game?? ooooook

Just giving credit to who I think has made a huge difference, Les gets credit for letting his asst"s help, Les gets credit for the win as he is in charge but our big men are really improving in a short period and Platt is working with them.
I have always wanted Jim to succeed and still do as no one is more passionate about BU then him, the one thing I do know is a good program is only as good as their asst. coaches, the head coach is not capable of doing this on his own.

Yes but WHY didn't they play a very good game (I didn't think they were THAT bad)....could it be BU had something to do with it ?

We ran them pretty hard..they were chasing us, especially Warren all nite, expending a lot of enery on D will often make the O suffer.

For the record I was the one that offered Detroit as a measuring stick....it was for me to see if the new O and time off was working.

NOW the new "stick" is ISU Blue....

Listen....I'm with you. I'm not OVERLY excited but we looked as good as I have seen us all year...and again, given the circumstances thats what I want to see....improvement game to game.

I don't think anyone is over-excited, but there is only one person on this board making excuses for the win, instead of just giving the kids the credit they deserve. I'm glad to see everyone else is just enjoying it.

Agreed on all fronts dogsrus. We have shown flashes of brilliance at times this year, but now we just have to show more consistancy, something that has been missing from this team the last two years. I think we have the potential to do well in the Valley (ie: 11+ wins and at least fourth place again), but hopefully we win the games we should and not lose games at home to teams we have no business losing to. If we can eliminate these type of situations, then I think we may have the makings of a team we can be proud of.
