  • Kansas State players suspended

Actually, this is old news, happening yesterday -- but the facts are obscure...

clearly some of the stars on K-State took some freebies...reportedly free clothes, NBA tickets, other goodies, and maybe more..

and their stud Jacob Pullen gets suspended for 3 games, and it is declared a "secondary" or minor violation.

Hmmm..then why are inadvertent impermissible benefits are smaller schools considered major violations, and players involved get nearly three times the penalty??
    Just askin'.........?

Maybe I'm not reading this right but the only violation that is stated is they got an unauithorized discount on merchandise. I don't see where they got anything free but maybe there is another article that says something else.
Looks like an employee gave them an employye price or somethiung on merchandise....if that's the case then 3 games is about right....

If there is more it doesn't say so here other than "details remain hidden"....but who knows what that means

Beat me to it... was wondering the same thing... any other sources showing free clothes, NBA tickets, or "other goodies"?

it is funny that given how the details of the impermissible benefits at BU were front page news....even tho cited as unintended and inadvertent, and repaid...
..and yet here...you cite "discounts" when that's not what's happened at all...
he was given FREE clothes and got caught...

        Another site says..
"Jacob Pullen went to a department store and got some free clothes"
(those aren't my words...they are being reported by several other sources..)

But, yes, there was a separate story saying Jacob Pullen, last week when K-State played AT Loyola, was given some Bulls tickets
and even tho he knew there was an impropriety, there might have been some impropriety..who really knows...

I was going from the article that you posted and all it said was discounted clothing.....if they took free stuff then they should be punished...

a few bloggers in Kansas said it's widely known that this kind of freebie stuff and special perks given to athletes in and around campus is openly known by many to have been going on for a long, long time.
NCAA knows about this stuff and usually turns a blind eye unless it's SEMO or Bradley

I'd be embarrassed if BU's coach acted this way in public. And, if I'm that kid's parent (the kid who broke his tooth) I'd be P.O.'ed at this guy for his callous lack of caring and compassion for my son. -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2QoEiKgsZI

Another Kansas State starter found to be on the take and getting all kinds of impermissible benefits and free items at local stores...Curtis Kelly --
                (Hmm..just maybe they all are??)

he is told to sit 6 games now -- but of course he's not as important of a player as Jacob Pullen is...
What with all the Mizzou & Kansas players also getting hit with suspensions and disciplinary issues, the Big 12 might be wide open!

This is all garbage and if the NCAA had done something about this a long time ago, it wouldn't be so out of hand...

That said, how do you suspend one guy for 6 games and one guy for 3 when they committed relatively the SAME violation?!

As some have said, if this were at Bradley or Butler or the like, it wouldve been closer to 10-12 games or of the like.

Also, if they were really looking around and handing out proper punishment to all who deserve it, we'd be seeing many BCS schools having to play 6-7 guys as these issues are running rampant throughout collegiate sports...

Either pay them or start punishing the offenders appropriately!

Plus the not suspending guys for the bowl games when you know darn well they are headed to the NFL is complete BS and looks poorly on the nCAA and the programs involved!

Sometimes I am sickened just by how little backbone and sack the NCAA had when it comes to the high level schools!

there is actually a precise scale of how many games (as a pct of the total scheduled contests) that is based on the monetary value of the impermissible benefits (items) received..
but then, that presupposes that if they catch the kid getting $2500 in freebies from one store, that they simply don't know about whatever else he likely got at other stores...

Seems I have heard a whole lot of reports about BCS players driving Beamers, living in luxury condos, watching 65 inch plasma TV's,
and getting free tickets to Lakers games, etc...and the NCAA doesn't seem to get involved unless
the story of the kids getting the freebies gets reported either in the press or bloggers....then and only then does the NCAA get involved... when they're sorta embarrassed into doing something by all the questions from the press.
Now when it's a small school -- the NCAA instantly flies a posse in on Lear jet at the slightest rumor or phone call from a disgruntled ex-player...to start digging everywhere until they find something to go ballistic about.
