Wichita State 82 Tulsa 79
Nice win by Wichita State (9-2), though Tulsa (5-6) isn't real good this year. Wichita State out rebounded Tulsa 32-15.
Attendance was 14,112 for the game played at Intrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita.
Dartmouth 67 Drake 59
Another terrible loss for the MVC. A home loss to a really bad Dartmouth (4-7) team, drops Drake (4-6) to the worst record among MVC teams, and their RPI drops to an MVC worst 241. Attendance was 3,358.
Good thing Wichita won. Seems like only Kyles and Stutz played well last night according to the box. I would have expected a 10-15 pt. victory, but they pulled it out. Hopefully Tulsa can win a lot of conference games to help out the Shox RPI/resume. Maybe the fact that UNI represented the Valley well last year will give the Shox more consideration for an At-Large.
Looking ahead to the Valley season, I believe WSU needs to go a minimum of 14-4 with 3 losses or less on the road. I see them losing on the road to Missouri St. and maybe UNI - but they SHOULD take care of business with everyone else in a pretty weak Valley compared to most seasons.
With a B'Busters win, a 15-3 Valley record, and at least 1 win in the Valley tourney, they should be in good shape at 26-6, considering there will be 4 additional NCAA teams this season.
As for Drake, I just don't get how they have dropped off so badly. I guess Young and Templeton really made a difference. Thought they'd make some noise in the Valley this year - but the only noise I'm hearing is...OUCH!!!
The "not real good" Tulsa team would be top 4 in the MVC this season...guaranteed. They already beat MSU double digits earlier, and nearly won at WSU last night.

I am not sure that is true, but as weak as the MVC seems to be this year, that's not saying much. Their RPI of 138 would currently rank 4th among MVC schools.
And note that I did not say they were a bad team. But they are not as good as the Tulsa teams of the last few years. Their record is 5-6, and their RPI is at 138, way lower than they have been since 2006, and that currently ranks in the lower half of the Conference USA. They have been a Top 100 RPI team the last 3 years.

They lost 3 of their top 5 scorers and 2 of their top 3 rebounders from a sub-par team last year
Maybe, who knows...but Tulsa is 5-6 when all but two MVC teams are at or above .500..
..and I suspect we'll never know as Tulsa was playing with an odd lineup......
Anyway -- there's a rumble that something was going on with Tulsa and the team has some issues that might have disrupted their play...
A few tweets have hinted at some internal issues, and one guy, their starting PG Jordan Clarkson,
who had started every single game and played 27 minutes per game,
a previous CUSA Player of the Week, did not play at all!
Other part time players' minutes were shrunk significantly and others' were increased...so something was up and Tulsa was not the same team as usual...

Starter Jordan Clarkson sprained his ankle in a loss to Princeton on Dec. 12. He did not play in Thursday's win over Weber State and is not listed on the depth chart for tonight. Sophomore guard Donte Medder is out for the season with a knee injury
