I know there are at least 2 posters on this board who play in the league...it is much more competitive that most people think.

I have watched a lot of games in the Sunday Basketball League, and they are very competetive and fun to watch. There are some pretty good players in the league, along with some guys who are not so good.

My son was one of the founders of the SBL, along with the other 2 guys mentioned in the article. He served as the Comissioner of the league for its first 2 years, but he had to retire since he moved away from Peoria for his job this year. He also coached the team that won the league championship in its first year.
The talent in the league is much better this year. There are several guys new to the league this year who played Division I basketball.

I play in this league and its very competetive. People take it as serious as if there were playing in a high school or college conference game. The league has a draft, trades, free agents, refs, annoucers, keep stats, sponsers, all star game, all star competetions, etc... its pretty intense.

I play in a 40+ league and there are some real good players who use to play D 2-3. I happen to be the scrappy type with a little skill to my game. The guys who played D 1 are in the regular league.

I went to BU with one of the guys that plays and played a lot of Haussler ball with him. He was an "A" league player and actually tried walking on to BU's team, but was edged out. I'd be interested in seeing a few of these games.

Do these guys get any type of compensation or is this all for the competition?

Players are not paid. In fact, all players have to pay $60 fee to join the league. The money raised from player fees and sponsorships is used to cover expenses only. Nobody makes any profits from the league.
