  • Big ten unveils new names and logos for divisions

The Big Ten will divide into 2 divisions for football once Nebraska joins for the 2011-2012 school year. Today the Big Ten announced the divisions will be the Leaders Division (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin ) and the Legends Division (Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern)-

Already the new names are drawing a lot of criticism and ridicule-
90% of people voting here say the names and logos are bad

New Big Ten logo: could it get any uglier-
The new Big Ten logo, by any stretch of the imagination, is, um, interesting. That’s a bland and unassuming adjective, and it should be used by those whose preference is to refrain from stating what they’re really feeling...

That logo looks like it was designed in the 1970's!

Seems like a purposeful decision avoiding the appearance of being too 'manly'.

I'm guessing that men's synchronized diving and 2 man luge will soon become the Big Ten's marquis sports.

I always thought the Big 10 logo with the hidden '11' was pretty cool (dumb that the Big 10 has 11 teams, now 12 but I liked the logo).

The division names are just silly. The logo is even worse. What does the '1' replacing the 'i' supposed to signify? I live in Madison and so far everyone hates just about everything about the division team splits, their names, and the logo.

I concur with everyone else. If I knew this was going to be the result I would have suggested "East" and "west" divisions.

These could be the nicknames of my 7 year old's biddy basketball leagues.

They should have just done the Leaders and Laggers division and change the name each year depending on which division had better schools. It would have made more sense than this and it would have pushed the "academic" excellence the B1G 10 (12) always tries to portray.

The t'osu v. Neb. battle for the conf. fb championship is already getting old.

Biggest marketing blunder since the introduction, and subsequent discontinuation of, "New Coke"??

(although some skeptics/conspiracy folks indicated CC did this on purpose to facilitate/cover up the change from cane sugar in their original Coca Cola formula to less costly corn syrup in their Coke Classic product which was itself later rebranded as "Coca-Cola")

I guess Legends and Leaders is about as PC as they could get.

But I find it very silly that they named two year end awards in Football with names of guys who didnt even play in the Big 10.

Dave Rimington - Nebraska - Offensive lineman of the year.

Ted Kwalick - Penn State - Tight end of the year.

I guess the Nebraska naming is to simply give the school some recognition, even though he played in the Big 8, but come on Ted Kwalick? Really he is the best they could come up with at Tight End a guy who never played one second of football in the Big Ten?
