  • Max Bielfeldt bests Illini future center

One of Illinois' top post prospects is Nnanna Egwu -- and Egwu's team went head to head with Peoria Notre Dame yesterday ...

Now, don't get me wrong -- Egwu is GOOD, and he's had several TRIPLE DOUBLES this year!!!

    but here's the outcome.......

Peoria Notre Dame 48 -- Chicago St. Ignatius 46

    Bielfeldt - 26 pts, 13 reb, 4 blocks
    Egwu - 6 pts, 5 reb

(the Trib article hints that Bielfeldt would go to Illniois, redshirt a year then get a scholarship..)

BTW -- Ryan Boatright scored 63 points in his team's 113-104 win

I see that Max has offers from Wright State and Ball State as well as a few others.I have not seen him play but wouldn't he be as good as Prosser? Is BU interested in him at all...or is he the same type of player as Prosser and we aren't looking in that direction for next year?

btw -- there is some discussion on the IL premium board that Bruce Weber is going to find a way to get Bielfeldt, now that he's seen the kid demolish his own pick for future-center/PF

speculation that maybe Bertrand, Head, or Griffey might depart

      one other note.......
Chicago Morgan Park's Wayen Blackshear (going to Louisville), played against Chicago Ellison yesterday, Morgan Park winning 103-57 -
with Blackshear scoring 56 points, 21 rebounds, 8 blocks, 7 steals.....

(Chicago Morgan Park has an enrollment of 1611 and is a basketball power..
..while Chicago International Ellison (CICS) is much smaller and not a basketball power)

Same "type" of player, except Max would be more polished as a freshman compared to Prosser right now. Max makes layups and FT's, and knows how to use his body to his advantage. It will come for JP, hopefully soon...

We are not interested because we only take projects for big men.

I think someone posted previously that he is not interested in Bradley. Many kids want to get out of their hometown to "make it on their own", or experience something different.

Some people act like Max is a certain star at midmajor or higher college. If that is so, then why isn't he getting any offers from schools above the low-majors? It isn't like he is an unknown. He has been scouted by lots of schools, and every recruiting service.

I am not saying he will be a star but I think he is farther a long than AD and NW.

Have you seen AD and NW play? If not, then you're simply speculating.

But he's a 6'7" center - AD is a legit 6'10" & NW is 7' & still growing. & having seen JP & MB both play in HS I'd say it's a push. Don't get me wrong, I think MB would look good in BU red, but if he doesn't want to stay in Peoria, than I wish him the best of luck & will follow him with interest. I'm positive that JL has thoroughly scouted Max based on how he has been with all the local talent & I'll bet MB has played with the BU guys in open gyms. What never ceases to amaze me are all the talent scouts in Peoria, who are willing to throw out recruits when they don't play up to their expectations immediately when the step on campus. Probably why Max want's to play elsewhere. To avoid that scrutiny.

Matt salley was only about 6-7 and he the job done better than any of our bigs since. When Sticks is ahead of AD that should tell you something.

Max Bielfeldt has expressed he doesn't want to stay in Peoria. So how is anything you've been arguing relevant?
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

What? Sticks isn't necessarily ahead of AD, AD's red-shirting, like JP did, and AT, and NW next year...

If AD was any good at all they would not of redshirted him the staff knows they need a big man and if AD was better than sticks he would be playing. If Max does not want to come here that is fine find another player like that not a project that never works just because he is not 7 foot doesn't mean he can't be a good big man.

This is ridiculous. Using that logic JP wasn't any good at all last year. You act like one year is all that matters, and that a mid major can go out and sign anyone they want. It is extremely difficult to get a big man at a mid major who is not a project.
