  • Coach K quote

Not sure if we should be genuinely flattered and encouraged by this quote or try and figure out how Les was able to blackmail him into saying it. Either way, nice to hear from the 3rd winningest coach of all-time and the defending national champs.

???They played their butts off tonight,??? said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. ???They played really hard, but our defense was excellent.

???When he gets all his guys back, he??™s a really good coach. But when you lose three guys, that??™s a lot. The one kid (Simms-Edwards), they??™ll get back. But those other two guys, you get them back, they could beat a lot of teams in our conference. They could beat us.???

Doubtful. That same BU group couldn't beat half the teams in their own league last year. He's right about a couple things though - BU played their butts off, and Duke's defense was excellent.

Wait a minute. We are sure to get JL-haters who will ask:
"Are you sure that wasn't Jim Les who said that, Maybe with a Coach K costume on?"

          I don't think it's the JL-haters crowd. I think it's the bad basketball-haters crowd.

When you are at the top of your profession, as is Coach K, all you have to do is respect the opposition, and he does an overall good job of it.

Krzyzewski also gave a radio interview earlier in the day applauding the wonderful job Jim Les does, how solid a program he has and how it's not a year-to-year thing.

My left butt cheek it's not a year-to-year thing. We've been flying by the seat of our pants 7.5 out of 9 years.

It's lip service. Nothing more, nothing less.

I thought Coach K was very nice to say those things.

I also thought Coach K was excellent following the game shaking hands with our players. He even stopped Walt to talk to him longer.

I thought Coach K was classless DURING the game when he left a starter in the game until the very end bombing three-pointers.

Yeh saw that he stopped at Walt...wonder what he said...agree though Coach K is going to say good things about JL...why wouldn't he? Wonder if Coach K has ever said a bad thing about a Coach he just beat?

Don't at all think its classless. He does not go into a prevent offense, he does not send mixed messages to his players. He expects 110% every minute of every game.

He wants his players to be champions more than anything. To be a champion you will have to execute in the face of adversity, so drilling that effort when it does not make sense will pay off big dividends down the road.

I would never suppose to be better at coaching Duke than Coach K, but let's calla spade a spade...
he did leave his starters in their jacking shots and 3's right to the end..with a freaking 40 pt lead!

Duke only has 12 different player who have played even a minute in a game this year...
and last night Coach K went with only nine guys (Irving injured) so there were two guys who did not play who have played in other games.

But the play-by-play does indeed confirm that FOUR of the starters were still in there in the final 3 minutes of the game...
The only starter who didn't play that deep into the game was Singler who left at 6:01 when the lead was 35 -- and he was done for the night.
Andre Dawkins, who had already hit EIGHT 3-pointers and had 28 points, was still jacking threes in the final minute of the game, when the lead was 33 pts!!!!!
Now -- are you gonna tell me he wasn't padding stats when he jacked 3 shots in the final 3 minutes with a 33-36 pt lead, and all three of them were within 13-15 seconds into the shot clock and the guy already had 28 points in the book! Nope -- it does border on a little bit of ego here.......

Hard to understand how toughness is not just a week of boot camp?

Anyway, they were not jacking up quick contested shots. They took what our D gave them. And we gave them wide open 3 after 3....

And took away the inside game. I'd much rather have then shoot 3's than layups. When people keep saying this do they really expect us to have shut down every facet of one of the best teams college BBall has seen this decade?
