Great experience for our freshmen. WL had 35 minutes and JP had 23 minutes. Ninth game of thier freshman year and they do this at Cameron Indoor. This will help them down the line.
Notwithstanding the result, I'll echo what folks have said. I was pleasantly surprised that MK came onto the floor and banked a three, and WE (at a certain point on the court) has a nice mid-range jumper.
Sticks, on the other hand, I felt sorry for---he had opportunities to get an easy one in but got the unlucky roll that would go to a Duke player.
Even though AW came and went during this game, I can't say any of 'em disappointed me. The pressure was all on Duke, not only to maintain that homecourt steak, but also for Coach K to pass Rupp.
agreed, thats some advice I think Walt will hold on to the rest of his life, its not every day the greatest college coach of all time stops you in a line to give you words of encouragement.
Liked the effort on D, but the tired legs from a short bench really showed up in the 2nd half.
High marks to WL & WE. DD played the point very well tonight in my opinion and I'm certain many will disagree, but I'd like to see him and DSE switch roles when DSE gets back. Put DSE back to where he had some success last year and see if he can get back into the flow.
JP needs to realize his size/bulk and start attacking the front of the rim. I'm sick of seeing 2-3 footers come up short. Him playing against guys much smaller than him in HS shows. At this point an offensive foul with him barging to the front of the rim would make me happy. The good part is he has this season & three more years to get bigger and to correct it.
Not alot out of AT, but didn't see him do anything that hurt BU and think he should continue to see minutes. JE is going to need to step up on the O side of the ball. Like his hustle and nose for the ball though.
AW will continue to be AW - Feel he has played with the most consistent effort of his career so far this year on both ends of the floor.
Is MK in the doghouse or is he just that much of a liability that JL won't run him out there for 2-3 minutes a half?
If BU can sustain the type of effort they showed in the 1st 1/2 tonight against lesser teams, the season will at least be easier to watch.
I'm still waiting for them to have one hot shooting game. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
Was proud of their effort on the glass tonight, they fought hard....this team just flat out cant shoot. yet another woeful 33% from the field. Our bigs give us nothing. Even Egolf's best game ever tonight wasnt anything special. Well, 12 days to not have to think about this team for a while. Maybe we can beat Jackson st.
Still more missed shots from within 8ft of the basket from the bigs than I would like. Agree about just throwing it at the rim more than shooting sometimes. Wish AT would not jump so emphatically at the ball sometimes, makes him look bad, and makes sure he has no shot at the rebound.
Pluses:
WE-finished with dunks twice
WL-He is good, and will (hopefully) only get better. Just needs to slow down sometimes.
DD-looked good running the point
JE-love his hustle, getting after the ball, good passing, just shoot more.
We get the ball inside and do not finish, I agree about our players seem to just fling the ball up instead of shooting it, Prosser did not have to play against bigger players in high school so he is having trouble finishing, think he can improve with experience, Will looked a lot better tonight in that he had some aggressive dunks, he needs to play like that all the time, A.T. rebounded but cannot score, wish A.Davis would get his minutes as he couldn"t be any worse.
Unfortunately the game went as expected, Duke has a great team and too many offensive weapons, I just wish we ran an offense that could score 70 points, hopefully our guys will continue to fight like they did tonight every game for the rest of the season .
W.Lemon was the star of the game.
Bad game for Warren, but I'd like to see you have a good game with Kyle Singler all over you all game. Clearly the Dook game plan was to wipe out Warren; it's the #1 way to take us out.
4 years ago, Maniscalco as a freshman was so impressive to me I knew he'd be a stud in 4 years. I'm getting those same general thoughts from Lemon right now.
MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS, DANG IT ALL
Rebounding was better overall. It felt like the urgency to board was big tonight, so we need to translate that mentality into Valley play.
It's the good and bad with Egolf. Needed to finish better at the rim, the one obvious play excepted. He had two silly fouls, but also did good in the mid-range game. There's a lot of good if he can just cut out the bad. Our bigs as a whole, all need to go stronger to the rim when they go up.
We won't thrive or anything, but I think we can survive with a Dunson/Warren/Lemon backcourt in MVC play.
We came out with a good defensive strategy, but when Duke countered, we needed to move to a new defense. We came in with a good strategy but didn't counter-adjust midgame when we needed to.
Honestly I was super disappointed in what I saw out of BU tonight. Yes I know Sam, Dyricus, and Taylor were all out. Here are some of the things that stood out in my mind... Sammy is the GUTS of this team and you could tell its not the same with out him...
W. Lemon: is by far the most fearless player we have (came in to prove a point). Love his competiveness and not back down attitude. Wont win much when he is the only one on the floor with that attitude.
A. Warren: leading scorer in the Valley, looked lost tonight against Duke. Timid and Scared at times.... Couldn't create his own shot.
J. Prosser: Don't know what to think yet (PLEASE FINISH SOMETHING)
STICKS: I thought played pretty aggressive or at least active in the limited time he got. Needs to get more minutes
W. Egoff: played ok in my mind.. Shouldn't be a 5 tho. He should be a 4 man.
Dodie: Ran the show pretty well. Cannot shoot what so ever. If its not a layup he cant score...
Team Defense: Zone, Really????? Duke did what Duke does... Shot 3's... OMG and had wide open after wide open look. Looked like we didn't know how to play a zone, Duke players wide open on every possession. BU seemed to be afraid on D. Their strength is their guards and 3pt shooting ability and BU dared them to beat em with that ... In my mind Terrible Decision.
Team Shooting: BU might be the worst 3pt shooting team I've watched this year.. That might me a little bit of an overstatement but its still awful. Post Scoring, is there any? Did any of them score in the post when they caught the ball in the post?
Coaching: ???????? I know they were with out some guys but uuggghhhhhh....
Nationally Televised any just absolutely got worked. Looked intimidated and scared for the most part all game long. A great opportunity to show what BU basketball is about and showed them we can't compete at a high level. We didn't have to win, we didn't have to stay within 10 ... We just needed to show we play with NO FEAR and will bust are rears to do whatever it takes to give ourselves a chance to win... I don't feel they did any of that..
Dear Bradley,
Thanks for coming to North Carolina. We appreciate the 3pt shooting workout. Hope you enjoyed your time.
Sincerely,
DUKE
Maybe Im being harsh but I just had a really hard time watching the game tonight.
