  • Free Throw - Player Substitute for Injury

In 2nd half of the Utah game, James Watkins shot a free throw and the refs/coach pulled him out for a bloody nose before the 2nd. A player came off the bench (Glover) and shot 2nd free throw.

Not that it would make a difference but I thought Les has to choose a player from the 4 remaining in the game. Has that rule changed? I looked it up and it was new for 2009 -- did they change it already. If not, why didn't Les choose one of the brick masons in the game or at least complain about not being able to?

    Thanks for answering.

Saw a game earlier this year when this happened. Announcers said if there is blood the coach of the team shooting gets to decide who shoots. No blood then the opposing coach selects from the other 4 on the floor.

Weirdest rule ever. I suppose it's to prevent faking, but make allowances for real (bloody?) injuries...

Coach of shooting team also gets to select shooter in case of injured shooter as a result of intentional or flagrant foul.

oh -- ok, that makes sense then (kinda like the hockey rule for high sticking - if there's blood it's a different penalty) --Thanks
