BU brought 2 PG's in the year after Sammy (Norris and McCain). The staff tabbed McCain as their #2 PG and even started him as the PG most of the year allowing Sammy to play the 2. One guy transferred and emerged as a DI starting point guard elsewhere, while the other "flamed out".

As a coach, you sometimes have to make decisions that bring about consequences. At the end of the day, those consequences impact results and for that, yes a coach is responsible.
Agree with everything you said except my comment was trying to address that I can't see how RW could be the reason for the 2 season ending injuries this year. Really hadn't given any thought to the fact that we are limited as to qualified back-ups at the 1 position.

Feel there is an opportunity for JL to do his best coaching ever or fall flat on his face.

Agree that the opportunity is there for him to do his best coaching ever, but I think falling flat on his face would be hard to do. There are so many ready-many excuses/reasons for failure this year that anything but success will be spun off to a victim of uncontrollable circumstance.

Just curious, is it just us fans & media making the excuses for him or do you think JL uses them as a bit of a crutch as well?

Do you think JL would say, "my bad" if the bottom falls out or would he say, "if only x,y or z hadn't happened"? My guess is it's probably somewhere in between.

Norris was not a point guard when he came to BU, he talked to Les about possibly moving him to learn the position but Jim did not want to move him and that is part of the reason why he transferred because of the 2 guards in front of him.

Oh come on Heart condition, ACL's, broken bones and chronic ankles are not controlled injuries and can not be blamed on the conditioning coach Geeeeeeeee's

I don't think you can disregard them. But I think the body of work is substantial enough to know what you get when we have a fully healthy roster.

Unfortunate for this team. Wow the amount of bad luck just floors me. Hope the best for Taylor and Sam's recoveries! If they can come back next year with the recruits we have coming in, we once again should be in position to be good next year.

First things first though, make sure Taylor and Sammy are healthy! Hope the best for these guys to get healthy. Get well soon!

One interesting thing though is we have no scholarships left now at this point. Obviously there is at least one opening usually, but still. Plus if we were still recruiting Max Biefeldt, I wonder what will happen there now that we would need two scholarships to open up...

Sam's condition worries me. His ankle/ankles hadn't healed since near the end of last summer and only got worse once he started practicing/playing again this fall. Some reports online say a bone bruise can take up to 2 years to heal fully without pain. I just wish Sam the best of luck and the doctors do everything they can for him.

What do you mean, IF the bottom falls out? When a team loses an all-conference guard and also probably it's best all around player, a coach, any coach, has every right IMO to say "if only x, y or z hadn't happen." Everyone on this board who thought this was going to be a good season is thinking the same thing because Sam and Taylor were 2 of the main reasons for our optimism.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Just a few of the comments from the isu board regarding SM....

wondering if their strength and conditioning coach may be under some scrutiny
It seems any reason is acceptable.
I would think this sets a dangerous precedent. This is much like when MLB teams fake injuries to sneak a minor league stud onto their postseason rosters...
Maniscalco had been well enough with this lingering injury to help BU win games to this point. Now, suddenly they want to cash in for an extra year? How about a rule that players have to sit out the games in the 6th year that they were able to play in the 5th?
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

So the NCAA should change it's redshirt rule (which has existed for many years) just because they don't like Bradley taking advantage of it?

And what is this person talking about a "6th year"? Sam would only be around 5 years after his redshirt year.

Since Sam's injury hurt Bradley in the EIU game, then maybe this ISU fan's logic should work in reverse, and Sam should get to play more than 1 extra year, since he cost BU an extra loss this year?

Thats why I have learned to stay away from rival boards...some stoopid stuff gets said. The same I'm sure when they visit our place. ANYBODY that knows ANYTHING about Sam wouldn't be questioning this.....but I understand thats how rivalries are....common sense often gets tossed out and the stupid rises to the top.
