I would love MaxB also. All I'm saying is that we have 5 actual guards on the roster next year. Ostensibly you could also consider Milos and Sean Harris in the Wing/SF sort of role that we play... Either way we'd be extremely short on guards (and/or wings) to the point where 3 guard play becomes nearly impossible.

And yes, I believe Max is the best post player out of Peoria in years. Now, Marcus may have been a better athlete, but Max has the complete package - he is a banger, he can finish at the rim, he rebounds like a madmen, and can make his FT's (he was 19-20 from the line at the last game of the TOC).

I believe the reason the big schools aren't on him is because he's 6'7 with shoes on and the way PND's offense is setup is he doesn't need to move much. They plant him on the block, feed him the ball, and let him work. A good college coach and some mentoring him help him excel at the next level. Just my opinion...
We can agree to disagree, but a person who is a stretch at 6'7 is not a post player in college even at the MVC level. I would take him as a power forward though provided he has some type of quickness????

A 6'6" player is the best center Peoria has produced?? Really?? Randle is far more a 5 than Max is. He has two inches on Max, and was a Mr. Basketball contender. I would even argue JP was a better Peoria-area '5'.
Come on man. I'd love to see Max at BU, but let's not go overboard.

It would be tough for me to believe that Max is better than JP as well. Understand that his argument was Peoria (5) and you are stating Peoria area 5.

R.Falker was only 6-8 and there have been a lot more good post players that were 6-7 and smaller in height, if Max knows how to use his wide body and has good foot-work he does not have to be any taller, by the way Joe Allen was 6-6.

Are you trying to say that Joe Allen was not good, or is it because he played before your time and you have no clue about him
The shot clock has nothing to do with whether or not a players is a good post player.

Joe Allen would establish position for a rebound and an opposing player would come down the baseline trying to get in the mix and bounce off him and end up in the first row along the baseline - I saw it, no fouls. Those were the 'hey days' in the Valley with Louisville, Tulsa, Memphis State (now Memphis), and Cincinnati in the Valley.

Joe Allen would battle with Wes Unsel (Louisville) at both ends of the court spinning, blocking all while moving from one side of the lane to the other in either of their possessions, fighting for position without fouling - it was a battle all in itself and fun to watch. IMO we have no one like Joe since. There was no three point line then so he spent his time in the blocks or high post. Joe Stowell is a great coach and knows how to get the ball inside. Joe Allen was a great scorer and scored a ton for Bradley in only 3 years - freshmen weren't allowed to play per NCAA.

There was no stopping Joe Allen, he scored with either hand.

No offense to Mr Allen and his extraordinary skills or fans who were able to enjoy watching him play.

My commentary expressed my opinion I find it hard to translate success of smaller players in the post from the past, to players in the present, with all the changes to the game and players' abilities since then.

It is always an open discussion comparing players from the past with players in the present and believing since Joe Allen succeeded greatly at 6'6" in the past, he would enjoy similar success today at that position, or, that others at that size with similar skills would succeed as much today. In most cases, we will never know.

I get into the same argument with my Dad who played running back in the NFL for several seasons in the early 50's about the greats back then compared to more current NFL players.

Apologize if I missed the mark on this post!

You have to imagine that every other coach going up against BU for a 6'10" or bigger recruit is telling them how BU runs a four guard offense & their bigs are used to set picks at the top of the key. In this day & age they probably carry video of BU's offense on their i-Pad to show them. Is this what you want to do for the next four years?
Your description of whats taking place in the recruiting venue is 100% on the money. A good friend told me in St louis last March that Valley schools are using the way we use post players against us and why wouldn't they. If you look at our post players it is working for them. I do see some potential in JP though. The gentlemen I talked to would know what he's talking about. His son is an assistant coach in the Valley.
