anyone there today? notre dame looked good beating a team from st. louis. findlay could probably give bradley a good game.

what's the story with brehm prep? they must have a direct recruiting line to an african village: five guys with african names six-nine or taller. jeez.

no responses yet. i am a little disturbed by these basketball teams from "academies." what sort of system do we have here? a school like brehm prep is billed as a school for students with "learning disabilities" but has a 50k plus tuition and suddenly fills a roster with five african kids six-nine or taller. someone has to be funding that, and why? pure charity?

inner-city kids now move back and forth between schools that aren't governed by public school rules. bobo drummond leaves the state for lumiere school, a school coached by alan huss who has "brought forth decatur christian and culver military academy in past years." sounds a lot like a mercenary coach for hire.

i'm as big a hs basketball fan as anyone but there is something really fishy about this system. i have to wonder how much "academics" are stressed at these "academies" and how much is about rich benefactors seeking to build what are essentially triple a programs for division one colleges. maybe i'm wrong about this, and hope i am.

    thoughts?

There have always been prep schools like Brehm with a load of foreign kids. Recall Boys to Men Academy, Decatur Christian, and current powerhouse prep schools like La Lumiere, IMG Academy, and Findlay Prep.

Since some of those kids have professional possibilities, and can earn millions in their futures, there will always be people willing to befriend them, help and finance them. Anyone can figure out why.

i didn't know b2m and decatur christian had "always" been basketball driven. seems like the last few years to me. i get why people are willing to bankroll, i just find it a little odd to be putting 14 and 15 year kids into this type of "educational" setting. and who are these investors anyway?

Brehm comparisons to B2M are kind of weak. Brehm is a strong academic institution who has had basketball players deciding between Harvard and Vanderbilt in the past year. They are absolutely not a traditional high school but they are not simply a basketball factory. I can assure that the players at Brehm are receiving a quality education. It is a school of 90 students with a staff of well over 100, not a school with 15 students who are all on the basketball team.

I am not comparing anything about the academic setup. I am only making a comparison to the fact they have many kids there who couldn't possibly afford to pay their own tuition. Somebody is forking over the thousands of dollars to support those foreign and inner city kids there and at the other prep schools.
