Excuse me Chico that I would bring up academics, BU and athletics in a statement. I had no idea that the subjects were exclusive of each other.

If I'm in the sciences and there were faculty members that had Nobel Prize winners, they would not be at BU or any regional school. They would be at high-research institutions which receive a hell of a lot of money to study what they want to do.

At Bradley, the faculty are prided for teaching the courses themselves. Trouble is that the Nobel Prize Winner would have to teach the intro sections without a TA. Sure you could have some grad student grade the papers, but the 50 minutes three days a week could go towards the professor doing more research, writing articles, getting grant money...

For a Nobel Prize professor at a high-research institution, they're going to have TAs lead lecture and have other grad students (or the TAs themselves) grade papers. They may teach an upper-level course, but for the most part will be concerned with research with the research assistants who are receiving stipends and tuition remission.

And the graduate program at BU is not well-known either compared to the undergrad, so the uber bright students in the sciences will have already gone to schools that have more high-profile grad schools.

I'm not slamming Bradley, but if you want to do extensive research then the large state schools or the small, prestigious private schools that receive a lot of federal money will be the route to go.

I would love to meet 1 other person that post on a basketball fan board that wants their school to have a Nobel prize winner over a national title....really????

I am in chemistry teaching.....at Bradley that results in a double major in chemistry (40+ hours) and education (40+ hours). I am planning to try and get into grad school for chemistry...but my GPA might need a boost. I still would rather see a national title.

EDIT: I would like to go to Illinois next....if not Germany or Warm

Maybe you'll get that National Title at Illinois. I've got news for ya -- Ain't gonna happen at Bradley.

New PJS article talks about Sammy's potential redshirt. Can anyone now shed light on what is going on?

Again, Nobel Prize? A politically-motivated, arbitrary award. Come on.

We were 4 wins from a title in 2006, and finished as the national runner-up twice before that. I'd say we're closer in basketball.

Posted a poll with extreme point of views. I believe the academic issue is pretty straightforward.

                    • I hope he redshirts....what is the point of playing to less than potential if he can't help us win.

Although really not fair to Dodie and AW that this is what their senior year has become...smh

I would agree, but I was under the impression this is something that will abother him as long as he's playing basketball. Besides, we don't even have a scholarship available next year (as of right now).
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Thats the key IMO.....do the Doctors think a year off would fix things with the correct treatment. Its ALL about the diagnosis, and as far as I have heard, no one specifically knows what is wrong.

Last I heard the ankles were "stable" IOW no structural damage...so whats causing the pain and can they remedy it?

                          • DR talks like this is a foregone conclusion...

"Maniscalco??™s chronically bad ankles have been especially bothersome this
season, possibly forcing him into a decision soon whether to take the rest of
the season off and apply for a medical hardship waiver.

An injured/ill player must have played in no more than 30 percent of his
team??™s games in the first half of the season to qualify for the waiver (BU
reaches 30 percent in three more games), which would grant an additional
                            year of eligibility.

A Maniscalco absence would force Dyricus Simms-Edwards into the primary
lead guard role with help from Dodie Dunson and Walt Lemon. Reserve
swingman Jake Eastman would also be thrust into a greater role."

                            • I will ask that posters refrain from posting specifics about Sam's (or any player's) personal medical information. Federal privacy laws protect such information, and I am not aware that any specific diagnosis or information about Sam's ankle problems have ever been released publically. So to speculate with such rumors as "no one specifically knows what is wrong", and "the ankles were "stable" IOW no structural damage" are not fair to Sam, and from what I have heard, are not even accurate.
Unless posters can verify the source for such information, rumors regarding Sam's medical issues will be limited to what is publically released.
