  • Texas is Breaking UIUC's Ankles

8-0 run to start OT, and Weber has yet to call a time-out. And what's worse is that the Illini players are hoisting up shots that are not even touching the rim. Oh, and Tisdale is fouled out.

    Meh.

Illinois was lucky Texas missed a ton of ft's

Texas was lucky that Illinois seemed to play some helter skelter ball mand made a lot of dumb mistakes

Texas outhustled the Illini for most of the game

I didn't think Illinois got many breaks...

Cole hit two huge threes in OT...but too little to late.

Obviously Texas is a great offensive team, but......

Illinois is going to have to find some way to stop opponents...
..allowing 90 points, 70 shots, and 21 offensive rebound to anyone is a BAD game defensively...

With Illinois playing Lewis, then Southern Indiana, followed by UCI, Toledo, and SIU -- simply did NOT prepare the Illini for a BCS-caliber offense like Texas...
Texas had scored over 80 in all their other games...and Illinois just couldn't box them out and shut them down.
I want to be careful in saying this -- but despite what has been spun -- two of the Illini starters are NOT playing very good defense...and how does a guy who's 6-9, plays half the game, and is supposed to be a good defensive player -- end up with ZERO rebounds in a game that has 83 missed shots and another 29 missed free throws??

        Last question I have ....
Where are those people who said Joseph Bertrand was a major stud, would be starting or sharing time at PG, or would be a major contributor??

I like the kid and think he still might be a good college player down the road...
But -- I have said since I saw him play in high school that Bertrand was several years "away" and would be better off going mid-major.
He could still develop as he is only in his 2nd year there, but obviously Bruce Weber feels he would add nothing currently -- as Bertrand isn't even logging PT at all after getting only a couple minutes against the cupcakes..

I stand corrected, the game did get interesting with that pull-up 3 by Cole to make it a one possession game.

Still, Weber has to be licking his wounds having not called a time-out and figure out a way to guard the Longhorn's shooters
