  • Illini's Rich McBride gets hit with suspension.

And it isn't just for the meaningless preseason games as some coaches have done.

McBride will miss all exhibitions, and the first four regular season games.

That means he will miss the exhibitions against Lewis & SIU-E, and the regular season games against Austin Peay, Jackson State, Georgia Southern, and Florida A&M.

He will be eligible to return for the November 21 game against Savannah State.

Personally I think that's about half as long as his suspension should have been, but hopefully he learns from his mistake this time and keeps his nose clean for the rest of his senior season.

Well, if he doesn't learn from his mistakes (again), maybe he will the next time... or the next time... or the next time... or the next time...

He's a senior, we're talking two, maybe three next times at most!

Maybe next time he won't be an Illini (graduated) and the law won't look at him as a basketball player.

McB - you better grow up in a hurry buddy, time is running out for 2nd chances and then 2nd chances and then possibly a 2nd chance.

Hopefully McBride gets his act together. Looking at this suspension, it's not even going to hurt the Illini. They play four pushovers and will have McBride back in plenty of time for the real competition ... coincedence, I think not.
