Please quote the rule dogs. If she was sitting and an official asked her to stop, which they wouldn't, and she didn't then one could be assessed. If she is standing and yelling yes but not if seated. Totally classless thats all.

A very reliable poster OTOB emailed one of the areas top officials thats a friend to find the rule.

Per rule Unsportsmanlike conduct can be assessed but he added Refs are very reluctant to do so as long as its not interfering with the administration of the game. Refs can also assess on fans as you well know but very seldomly do so....

I agree no call should have been made but the coach or one of his assistants should have told her to stop.

You are correct in the administration of the penalty. It would be ruled a "T" under unsportsmanlike conduct. His friend is right but in order to penalize it the official would ask her to quit first not just ring her up. The unsportsmanlike rule covers many things and this would be one but again you won't see that call being made anytime soon. You are right in the fact a fan can be given a T but that should NEVER happen. You would just throw them out of the gym with no penalty. You wouldn't want to penalize a team by awarding the other team 2 free throws and the ball because one of there fans was an *****. The key word here is fan. If fans are creating an atmosphere that is causing danger, such as throwing things on the floor then a "T" can most certainly occur.

If you guys are so upset about one watergirl yelling rebound during a free throw, then I strongly advise you against stepping foot into Cameron Indoor in a couple of weeks...I know I know it was because it was a "team manager" on the road...fact is if she was sitting just one row behind where she was at, in amongst the few LMU fans, no one would have said anything. I say "toughen up buttercup"-and practice your free throws! BU is gonna have a hard enough time scoring this year, they don't need to be giving free points away...

This thread did however remind me of a road trip that me and my buddies made to Drake about 5 years ago...I was on top of my game of talking junk during the game...we were directly behind BU bench (not sure how we got those seats but we did!)...Without using even one profanity, I was able to get under the skin of one of the Drake students who was working the game in some sort of capacity right next to BU bench. She ended up F-Bombing me and completely losing it. It was a very proud moment

I've also had a student at SIU want to fight me at a game once, and also had an approximately 75 year old women intentionally elbow me in the stomach at a BU-ISU game. These are all 100% true stories and can be verified by a couple people on this board. Oh and by the way, I never once used any profanity, vulgarity, or any other -ity. Just good old fashioned midwestern smack talk. Bring it on Cameron Crazies I got a little something for ya!

???? If she was sitting and was asked to stop, WHICH THEY WOULDN'T, AND SHE DIDN'T, then one could be assessed. Standing yes, but not if SEATED. I'm confused Coyote.

Interesting that the LMU water girl/manager/trainer gets blasted for yelling during free throws while one of the Wichita State assistant coaches (either Gross or Jans) does the same thing and nobody says anything.

Maybe people just didn't notice, or do you think maybe there is a conspiracy around here that is anti-California, anti-female, anti-non-conference??????

Wichita absolutely had an assistant jabbering and making noise during Bradley's free throws. I was sitting directly across from their bench just a couple rows from the floor. I was a little surprised because I've never seen a coach do that before, but I didn't have a problem with it. I also say hey-give yourself every advantage to try to win. That's just old fashioned midwestern gamesmanship!

My son in law coaches a HS team just south of Atlanta and this is common place down there. The opposing fans always make as much as noise as possible when the opponent is shooting ft's

I've never seen what the big deal is...why is it ok to do everything possible to distract the road team, while you can't make a peep during the home team's trips to the line? Where is this unwritten rule book? I haven't been to a middle school game in probably 15 years, but I distinctly remember the opposing cheerleaders doing a little "rebound" cheer "on the road", and the parents/fans of the "road" team stomping on the bleachers etc. And this was stinking middle school! And guess what? Nobody was offended...

I ask you, how could the 12-year-olds handle that type of unsportsmanlike conduct, while people get up in arms if opposing fans of ADULT MEN make a little noise???
