  • RE-Tooling? We Don't Got To Do No Stinkin' Retooling!

    From PJS Article:
"Can the Bradley Braves reinvent themselves in two days?

However unlikely such a task appears, it’s what basketball coach Jim Les and his staff have been trying to do the past two practices since Taylor Brown was declared out for the season.

“There may be some in-game adjustments, but I do like the initial focus and what we’re trying to do,” Les said. “Some of it we’ll be doing on the fly. As a coach, you always want a little more time. We’ll get baptism by fire real quick with two games back to back.

“But the guys are buying in. They’re excited.”

"We don't got to do no stinkin retooling"
I see in the PJS this morning BU will go with JP and 4 guards tonight vs Loyola. This is re-tooling and re-inventing themselves?

This is the same old bombs-away BU we have seen before including no rebounding and poor FT shooting.

As for guys buying in, didn't look that way last night for 36 minutes of the game, or, by one particular player in the dog house right now who might not have been too excited.

I guess someone at BU thinks BU fans have short memories, or, are as dumb as our posts! Well, ok, as dumb as my posts..

Coach Les does not provide his starting lineup to the media for the morning paper. They are guessing.

I liked the energy last night - thought we played hard for about 30 minutes - still working up to 40.
We played 4 guards at one time, so their bigger dudes pounded our little guys. I just don't see how we can outrebound with a 4-guard line-up.
NIU hit some deep 3-bombs that happened to go in and some tough contested shots too.

We have little choice playing 4 guards for most of a game....it's where most all the experience is for one thing. For another if you play 2 bigs much together I see a whole bunch of foul trouble

NIU wasn't big at all. We didn't get outrebounded by them because they outsized us...we got outrebounded by them because they outworked us, outpositioned us, and outhustled us. They got:
          10 rebounds from a 6'6" guy (Rucker)
          7 rebounds from a 6'1" guy (Hall)
          7 rebounds from a 6'7" guy (Toler)
          6 rebounds from a 6'5" guy (Silas)...

No one taller than 6'7"...two guards with 6 or more rebounds...there's no reason that we should have been outrebounded with the lineups we were putting out there...

SIZE does not equal REBOUNDING PROWESS. I know that a lot of people want to believe it is that simple...but it is not...

Well said. 6'2" DSE had 6 rebounds!

Especially with long shots....long rebounds...speed, hustle determination and smarts will get to those before heigth.

Sorry I was suppose to quote ER...still holds true though. Long rebounds don't get snagged by the bigs down low.

DSE had 6 rebounds? I looked at the box score...not seeing that?

Maybe he misread the 6 assists as rebounds?

Let's face it guys we will be going small as a matter of fact this year, unless AT and MK can prove that they can add some real quality minutes! What reality do any of you guys live in. So we play WE and JP at the same time for extensive minutes????? What happens if they both get into foul problems? I hate to see AW playing at the 4 for defensive assignment but I'm betting we'll be playing some sort of match up zone once the MVC season begins. The match up zone needs plenty of practice time to be effective.

I guess I was still trying real real hard to believe BU can recruit players over 6'5" that can actually play and make a difference. I haven't given up on them.

What all the statistics presented in this thread show me is that BU team struggles rebounding, no matter what the size of the players on the floor.

I still stand by my observation JL said he would re-tool his scheme, but all we will get is more of the same, four guard bombs away. Unless BU shoots 45%+ from behind the arc each game, no chance to win.

It's always something. Tomorrow it will be something else, some other Jim Les fault brought to light from 2000 miles away. Probably blaming him for not recruiting guys who know how to shoot layups, or recruiting guys who get high ankle sprains.

Got to keep my streak in tact.

Feel free to ignore my posts, I mostly ignore everyone elses!

In case anyone didn't bother to read the posts, and just looked at the pictures, I was lamenting the supposed 4G BU starting line up from the PJS. My second post was actually made after 10 minutes of the game tonight AMC....and wasn't obviously a reflection of what BU did.

Re 2000 miles away, Arizona Haters!

Seeing as how BU played 2 bigs most of the night, and hopefully 3 bigs every now and then, and got production from them, my comment about not giving up on BU bigs rang pretty true given the fact BU won with contributions from their bigs when their guards couldn't shoot diddly tonight.

And, no need to shoot 45% from 3's, if BU actually plays bigger.

Tell me again, what's all the fuss all about?
