I know this was linked inside another post, but I thought it deserved its own thread.

    Some key quotes:

"Even if the offense doesn??™t pick up, though, there??™s no reason for defense to slack off. Sometimes, shots simply don??™t fall, even when offense is perfectly executed. But there??™s never an excuse for defense to take a holiday. Good defense can keep a team hanging around, in position to win a game, even on a bad-offense day."

I could not agree with this more. I think this team has the bodies, speed, and ability to compete every game on the defensive end of the court.

???We have to start with our defense and be unbelievably disciplined and solid,??? Les said. ???Tonight it showed. When we got away from that discipline, it cost us. We??™ve got to be able to sustain. We??™ve got to be five guys to the glass, being physical and tenacious and going to get rebounds.???

The rebounding was poor last night, but BU has not been good at that recently anyway. I think JL has the team and the D headed in the right direction.

Obviously, tonight will be interesting to see how the team reacts physically.

I think KW has it right, and I think Jim is preaching it to the team everyday.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I think KW is approaching this season in the correct way. He seems to be writing constructive articles, as opposed to some of his "hit pieces" from previous years which were only designed to snip at Jim Les, in my opinion. His articles since the TB news broke have been good reads that are saying the right things. Very refreshing.

...and I think they are all on point. They still have opinion to them, but they are really hitting on some good, true points.

Better yet, it seems that Coach Les is also emphasizing these same ideas with the team.

I think Kirk really, really likes Platt
And he likes that he sees JL making Platt's defensive philosophies dominate practice time.

So far this year, JL is doing the right thing.

I would like to see more of the "5 bodies" theory in action. Too often rebound opportunities were 4 black jerseys to 1 or 2 whites...

We do not send enough bodies inside the paint to rebound, we always have 2 and sometimes 3 players retreating to get back so we do not give up an easy basket , one player back should be sufficient plus if we send 4 guys to the paint we have a greater chance of getting an offensive rebound basket , with that we do not have to worry about the opponent going down and getting an easy basket, it seems like our philosophy is to get back more then have 4 guys attack the paint.

Agree about our offensive rebounding. Someone drives hard to the basket and there is nobody following for a rebound attempt! Still think that this is a hangover from JL's NBA days.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

JP had a nice tip in off a drive...but I agree we need to send 3 bodies

And from as big a KW critic as I am, I actually have to agree! Let's hope he keeps this "new style" of journalism up.

I was going to write as much. Good to see it because I know he has the talent to write the pieces. I hope this trend continues.
