  • Loyola Marymount prediction

I won't be home tonight, so you guys can lump this in with JD's thread once he creates it--

BU is -9 this morning --- somehow, I think we cover tonight. 80-69.

Right now I will take every dog we play regardless of the number.

I took NIU last night that was a way to easy $50, letting it ride on Loyola and taking those 9 points. Right now Vegas is not paying attention at all on Bradley. We dont score enough or rebound enough to ever give points.

I am against betting... Too much betting talk
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I'm going to be strangely optimistic and using no logic predict BU 71 LMU 59.

              BU Record: 2-0

              JD's Prediction Record: 2-0

The 1-1 Loyola Marymount Lions ROAR into Carver Arena (or Carvarena as Dan Diorio says) to face the 2-0 Bradley Braves.

              The Rundown:

              >The Lions have 12 players who average double digit minutes this season

              >>Bradley has only played 9 players total this season.

              >The Lions average 89.5 ppg...they allow71.5

              >>Bradley averages 66 ppg...they allow 59

              >The Lions are just 7 of 31 from 3-point land this year

              >>Bradley is just 13 of 44 from 3-point land

              >The Lions are led in scoring by Drew Viney (Transfer from Oregon) with 20.5

              >>Bradley is led by AW's 16.5

              >The Lions shot 44 free throws last time out in a 100-62 win over La Sierra

              >>Bradley has shot just 39 free throws all season!!

              >The Lions won 18 games last year and beat Gonzaga

              >>Bradley is shooting just 42% for the season

              >>The Lions AVERAGE 50 rebounds a game

              >Bradley has just 67 rebounds total this year

With Loyola M. starting 3 players 6'7" or taller, Bradley will be very hard pressed to defend the interior. Viney and his fellow starting forwards average 43.5 points per game. Those three forwards also pull down 17 rebounds a game.

Those numbers almost require BU to play two "posts" at the same time. I would expect Prosser, Egolf, AT, and Milos to rotate as they have been doing this season. I really think it may force BU out of the 4-guard we have seen so much this season.

BU has to limit the Lions to one shot a possession. We cannot afford to give multiple looks, deep in the post.

Loyola M. likes to push the ball and get to the line. Staying out of foul trouble should help BU immensely.

BU should take advantage of the 17+ turnovers the Lions are averaging this season. IF BU can eliminate the defensive lapses, limit Loyola M. to one shot per trip, and not give the Lions 40+ FT's, I think they have a shot.

That said, that is a lot of IF's. This game looks like a very tough one for BU.

              The Pick:

              Loyola Marymount 71

              Bradley 63

Think the quiet storm, errr Red Storm are worth at least an 8 pt shift on the home court! 67-67 & going into overtime.

Go the LMU athletic website and check out their online basketball program. It's very nice and has embedded videos. Very slick.

There is one reason I am predicting a loss: the 2nd of back-to-back games vs a team who did NOT play yesterday.

In the NBA they did a study a couple years ago which showed that even the best teams are significantly more likely to lose the 2nd of back-to-back games when the opponent did not play the night before.

For example, we beat U of I last year after playing the night before, but U of I also played the night before and had the same level of fatigue.
