    Just back from Carbondale

I went with some SIU fans to the home opener.
First.. the renovated arena looks great. They did a good job although the upper seating is very uncomfortable.

This was an ugly game.. about 25 fouls in the first half.. not quite as many in the second half. SIU committed about 25 turnover as well. Not much flow to the game.

The zone worked well for Northeastern because there was virtually no outside game for SIU. The Salukis also played much of the game without a real point guard in the game. And at some point and time Bocot apparently ticked off Lowrey.. or was hurt.. because he played very little in the second half.

      a couple of other thoughts...

Teague looks better.. and will be a load the next couple of years.

If you don't like Les' substitutions.. Lowrey would have driven you nuts today. Faye was pulled just 2 minutes into the game.. multiple substitutions all over the place. It seems clear there is no set rotation right now.. looked like a feeling out process going on.

It will be interesting to see how D Taylor effects things when he becomes eligible.

Also the SIU freshman 7 footer was put into the game very early for a couple of minutes.. so no red shirt. All the Saluki fans I know are upset about this.

Everyone regresses under Lowery, DT will probably be worse than he was as a senior in high school.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Northeastern an NCAA bubble team out of the CAA last year? I know they did not miss by much. Don't know what their outlook is for this year, but it may not be a "bad" loss at least in terms of caliber of competition. However, it IS a bad loss considering it was played at Carbondale, and SIU let a lead slip away late. Plus any game that goes into overtime was obviously winnable for both teams. If SIU made it that far, they should have been able to put the game away, even if only by two points.

Remember Les's motto for Bradley this year: Just one more stop and/or one more basket. That's all it takes!

            Last season for Northeastern:

            20-12
            14-4 in Colonial (2nd place)
            RPI 75
            SOS 95
            Conference Rank 11th

I guess that's on the bubble, but I wouldn't have put them "in". Then again, last season the "bubble" was VERY WEAK - so they coulda been considered "close".

what SIU 7-footer?? Is this a joke??
The tallest player on the SIU roster is 6-9, and that's Gene Teague who is at least an inch shorter than CFay!
And you can't be talking about Jordan Myers who already redshirted and is on a nice pace of one offensive foul per minute played

Well that was my point. Maybe they weren't quite an NCAA Tournament team, but they were close and in the NIT, so losing to them is nothing to be ashamed of. It was just the manner in the way SIU lost that probably still has a lot of Valley fans ticked off today!
