Terre Haute/Indy St.

I know some folks have made this trip before... Any tips/pointers on where to stay, what to eat, etc? Doesn't look like there are any hotels near the arena... Is the university itself in a good part of town?

Asking because we're targeting the @Indy St game for our annual valley road trip this year.

The university is in the middle of town. Terre Haute is small and there are no "bad" parts of town. You will have no trouble finding the Arena.

About 2 miles south of the town center- US Route 41 and I-70 intersect, there are a lot of good places to eat, and several hotels there. The team usually stays at the Holiday Inn.

Had a group of 6 go down two years ago. Arena is downtown and you will want to stay near that. I think we stayed at a Marriott property?? Some fun bars near the arena. Had lots of fun after the game (even though we did not win!)

Yes stay home... don't go there.. and if you do.. don't breathe the air! lol

Ballyhoo is a good tavern to hit before or after the game.


Last time we stayed at the Pear Tree Inn by Drury. It was clean and comfortable.

Not sure where you are coming from but the Beef House is a must stop too.

I went down last year...

We plan on stopping at the Beef House before the game this year...

We drove through a pretty lame piece of the town but ran right into the arena and passed alot of bars that were full of Red and Blue

We left after and didn't stay the night.

your annual trip and you pick Terre Haute?....the Beefhouse and a BU win would be the best parts of that trip.....

I grew up in Terre Haute(parents just moved away 4 years ago). It's not a bad town. As Da Coach said, I-70 and US 41 is right by the mall and most of the restaurants in town. There are also two new really nice hotels within 2 blocks of the arena - A Hilton Garden Inn, and another that would make for a great trip. The Terminal is a good place to go before the game, bar food, but you can throw a rock and hit the arena, they Bally(hoo) is the same way. The town really has two main drags, US 41 and Wabash. The arena is 9 blocks from the intersection of the two. Not much to see on the ISU campus, TH hasn't embraced being a college town at all. Just my thoughts... I can answer most any question you may with a PM (welcome to all).

Lol coincides nicely with an extended period off of work granted by the local megacorp. I must also point out that in most years the annual road trip is taken in addition to the annual mvc tourney trip... Something at risk this season due to labor relations at aforementioned megacorp. That situation may heavily limit ourpeoria area fan bases ability to travel to stl this year...

Those were indeed the good old days- and a right of passage for a few of us! Two of the best trips are to ISU Blue and ISU Red.. in the old Horton Fieldhouse!!

Forget about all the generic cookie cutter chain restaurants at I70 & 41. For a good meal, great beer selection, and a dose of terre haute history check out Mogger's. If not for a meal, at least for a few cold ones after the game. Its not far from campus, and its built in a cool early 19th century building that used to be a brewery. I believe they brewed champagne velvet there up until the 50's. Anyway, heres a link:

Ive been there a couple times and always had fun, cool atmosphere, friendly staff.

Or be a lemming and go to Applebee's. Just my $.02, but Id much rather check out a unique local joint than a nationwide chain.

I've eaten at Moggers at least 3 dozen times. Good food. For a really good($$$) meal just across the road is a steakhouse called 'Stables' built in an old stable (surprise). There are several good local eateries though very few as close as Moggers.
