The Valley is now 6-3 overall. Two of the three losses were nothing to be ashamed of, as UNI lost to Syracuse at Syracuse and SIU lost to Illinois at Illinois. I would have expected each game to be a bit closer especially in UNI's case, but neither UNI or SIU are expected to seriously contend for the title. I would be more interested in seeing how WSU, MSU, CU and us perform against the BCS contigent.

Indiana St losing to Loyola was a bit disappointing, though I would say both of these teams are fairly evenly matched. That's why ISU losing to Loyola is not a terrible loss, but again it would have been nice if this game were closer.

Obviously the Valley has been lacking in quality regular season non-conference wins over the last few years, so I'm hoping the Valley can bag a few quality wins during the non-conference portion of the season.

Those "nothing to be ashamed of games"will be remembered on Selection Sunday. Lack of "signature win" will not only reflect on NIU and SIU, but the entire Valley. There are only so many opportunities for "signature wins."

I have serious doubts that one of the bottom teams (SIU) in the Valley losing at Illinois will be remembered on Selection Sunday and reflect badly on every other Valley team. Yes...I do feel SIU will be playing on Thursday in STL. I would be amazed if they are in any type of NCAA Tournament talk concerning their loss on November 13 at Illinois. I feel the same way about UNI losing at Syracuse, other than the fact they have a chance to be involved in Selection Sunday talks.

It would be great to get wins in these games and I truly wish every Valley team would go undefeated in non-conference action, even isu. I just don't think these two games reflect badly on the entire conference in March.

Too bad you are not on the selection committee.

Oh, I'm not saying that it wouldn't be nice for the Valley to win a few of these games. As a matter of fact, I mentioned that in the third paragraph of my post. I'm just saying the Valley has no bad losses yet, which is just as important as winning against BCS teams.

However, if I had to choose which teams get the quality wins, I would hope it would be the teams in contention. Not say SIU beating U of I wouldn't help the conference RPI. It most certainly would. But as was stated by another poster, SIU probably won't be in the at-large discussion, so it wouldn't help them as far as their postseason prospects are concerned unless they surprise everyone and finish strong.

If Evansville somehow beats North Carolina at home later this season, that would be a big win for the Valley, but again, probably would not matter to Evansville's postseason prospects either unless they are vying for that last spot in one of the "EIEIO" tourneys.
