BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Bradley (7-7-3, 3-1-1) will get a chance to defend its 2005 Missouri Valley Conference championship on the last game of the regular season next Saturday night at Shea Stadium after earning a 2-1 Valley road victory Saturday night at Western Kentucky (4-8-3, 0-3-2). Junior back Stephen Brust sent home a header to finish off a corner kick play in the 26th minute and freshman Chris Cutshaw scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 52nd minute by beating Hilltoppers keeper Pat Rickman on a counter attack.
Bradley's next game, the last game of the regular season, will be next Saturday at home against Creighton.
Creighton won yesterday to go to 4-0-1 in the MVC, while Bradley is 3-1-1. Bradley will have a chance to win their 2nd MVC regular season championship in a row if they can beat Creighton next Saturday. They would finish with the same record as Creighton, but would be the #1 seed by virtue of the win over Creighton. They would then get a bye in the first round of the MVC tournament.
A tie would leave the Braves alone in second place, but would give Bradley a similar bye into the tournament semifinals. A loss, however, would drop the Braves into a tie for second with Missouri State, but would make Bradley the No. 3 seed based on its loss against the Bears.
Was at the Creighton game in Omaha this past Saturday night and they still are tough. They have had some up and down points this year, but continue to play well on the road. If Bradley can pull it out it would be a great win for them!
