  • 66 Bradley vs. 55 Texas A&M:Kingsville

The Bradley Braves finally begin the regular season with a battle with Texas A&M Kingsville. Kingsville sports a student body that is 62% Hispanic.

The or Javelinas have a wonderful mascot. Porky the Javelina, not to be confused with or

But seriously, here is the rundown.

The Javelina's are coached by Pete Peterson. He has amassed 199 wins over the past 13 seasons.

    Some Facts:

-They were 13-14 last season, which broke a streak of 6 consecutive winning seasons.

--They won only 2 of 13 road games a year ago.

---They averaged 66.8 ppg while giving up 69.5

----They had 4 players that averaged at least 10 points/game.

---They were out-rebounded by an average of 5 boards/game.

--They shot less than 30% from beyond the arc.

    -They averaged 13 turnovers and 9 steals/game.

Kingsville started out 10-2 last season before falling apart down the stretch. They did lose a lot of their scoring from last season.

In their only exhibition game they were stomped by UTEP 75-48. Antwan Mullins is easily their best scoring option, averaging 11 ppg last season. He had 16 against UTEP in the exhibtion.

Bradley is returning 4 starters from last season and has some players returning from injury as well. Bradley is coached by Jim Les, who has 142 wins in his 8 seasons on the Hilltop.

-Bradley returns three players who averaged at least 13 ppg.

--Bradley won 10 of their 15 home games last year.

---Bradley features two 5th year seniors and the league's most experienced senior point guard.

----BU nailed 3's at just a 36% clip a season ago.

---BU has 5 games, 3 at home, in the first 10 days of the season.

--Bradley returns 82% of its scoring and 71% of its rebounding from last year.

-Bradley is 6-2, under Jim Les, in season openers. They are 5-0 in home openers under Les.

    What does it mean:

Bradley wins this season opener 73-58 and moves to 1-0.

This needs to be a start of a heavily focused defensive effort.

Win games 43-41...who cares about scoring.

also important to see if we and jp can play together and stay in the game

Eastman is not playing because he rolled his ankle in practice this week they just said....he is about 60-70% according to the announcers. Sounds like its not too serious, but they are keeping him out in a game like this.

This is my first look at Lemon and Prosser. Lemon is the real deal and Prosser is a MAN!

I really like the combination of Lemon and DSE for our future..... and cant wait to add Donivine to the mix.

I was thinking the same thing and with DD in there we have enough ball handling with SM sitting.

The jitters should be done and I want to see these guys in the 2nd 1/2 take care of business.

I really like what I'm seeing on the defensive end. They are really cutting down the passing lanes and getting their hands on alot of balls. There also have been several times that they have had good position but TAMK shoots from so far out that the balls are caroming over their heads.

What I don't like is that nobody will drop the ball to the the big after the pick although every time they have been left alone or with a guard. Hopefully that will come as the season progresses.

I still see too much gambling and leaving guys wide open for the 3-point shot. Thanks God these Hogs can't shoot.

Welcome back, 4 Guard BU offense!

Missed you while you were gone.

We should nickname the BU Team "The B-52's" since looks like it will be bombs away this year.

                          Just kidding.

I figured this might be a bit of a choppy game, even if TB was playing. I'm hoping BU wins by at least 15, which would be a decent start considering it's the first game of the season. Most teams in their first game aren't as polished as they need to be, and it will take some adjustments now that TB is out for the year.

At the under 12 TO, BU up 44-36. Hopefully we play a strong final 12 minutes and win this game going away.
