The University of Alaska-Fairbanks, a D-II school has changed its name and is creating a fuss.
First, they have changed their name to the Alaska Nanooks, which is a Native American name.
But moreso, they are dropping the "Fairbanks" part of their name, causing the other Alaska schools (such as Alaska-Anchorage) to feel a bit ticked.
""It's really ridiculous. It sounds like a gimmick,"..... "Changing their name to Alaska Nanooks undermines the idea that UA is a unified system. It's like they want people to think they are the premier school. If they are Alaska, what does that make us?"
