  • Alaska school picks hostile & abusive name

The University of Alaska-Fairbanks, a D-II school has changed its name and is creating a fuss.
First, they have changed their name to the Alaska Nanooks, which is a Native American name.
But moreso, they are dropping the "Fairbanks" part of their name, causing the other Alaska schools (such as Alaska-Anchorage) to feel a bit ticked.
""It's really ridiculous. It sounds like a gimmick,"..... "Changing their name to Alaska Nanooks undermines the idea that UA is a unified system. It's like they want people to think they are the premier school. If they are Alaska, what does that make us?"

We drove by the campus on our recent vacation to Alaska. Really a nice campus. They do a lot of research on global climate change.
