  • SIU player out for the year

Unfortunately for SIU's redshirt freshman Chris Cornelius, he injured the ACL ligament in his right knee and will miss the entire season. In a similar situation to Sam Singh, Cornelius already used a redshirt last year, so he will lose this entire year, unless he can appeal to the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility.

An update on another key MVC player-- Creighton point guard Josh Dotzler has begun practicing after his knee reconstruction surgery last spring--

    Tough break.
Cornelius finished high school in 2004.
He then spent an extra year at prep school, then redshirted last season in his first year at SIU.
He has not played a game competetively since spring of 2005 and by the time he can play at SIU he'll be 3 1/2 years out of high school. He could possibly get this injury season back since the NCAA has been known to award a 2nd redshirt year for injuries, but he won't know until he finishes the the 2009-2010 season and applies for it.
