the 3 leading candidates are John Wall, Evan Turner, and Blake Griffin --
but Griffin just put up 20 pts & 14 rebs in his very first game!

John Wall's debut is tonight..Evan Turner had 16 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asst vs. Lebron's Heat

Wes Johnson, only 4 rebs 13 points last night for the T-Wolves, but the team played better when he was in.

John Wall stat line....sorry no triple double....
Wizards lose by 29, Wall was 6-19, 14 pt, 9 asst, only 1 reb, 3 TO, and had 3 of his shots blocked.
He played considerably more than anyone on either team, and took more than TWICE as many shot attempts as anyone else on his team and more than anyone else on either team.
ESPN calculates a +/- and John Wall's was -31..while all five Orlando starters had +/- figires ranging from +24 to +31

Washington played with virtually no defense tonight. It was pretty much just pass a time or 2 and take a long jump shot for Washington, meanwhile it was an easy cake walk to the hoop for Orlando.

I didn't see the end in depth scoring stats but with about 10 minutes left in the game, Orlando had outscored Washington by at least 30 points in the paint. Washington was also out rebounded by 28.

Wall didn't have his 4 and 5 star starting mates but he still put together a decent line for his 1st pro game. I'm pretty sure the Wiz will still suck when Arenas returns, they need a stud big man in the middle.

I wouldn't count out DeMarcus Cousins. It's really difficult to forecast that award early. In the last 10 years, the NBA ROY was the #1 pick only twice (LeBron and Rose). It has always gone to a top ten pick since Mark Jackson (87-88 ) at #18. Amare had the worst draft position of any recent winner at #9.

With that being said, Blake Griffin looks like a monster, and I would almost take him over the field.
JL are not respunsible foor the string of injunrys....

Here's a video from the other night -- a wicked crossover by Evan Turner
            that schools DWade!

DWade just stands a shrugs as if he isn't sure he really saw what he just saw...
I'll bet Sammy taught him that move back in his AAU days!!

I watched Griffin's game and was impressed. A couple of things really stood out. The majority of points he got were on putbacks after an offensive rebound (he had 9) or on a fast break. He had very few touches on offense. That will have to change. His defense was bad as was his effort in going after defensive rebounds. Terrible in blocking out which led to Portland getting 21 offensive boards. He watched the shot flatfooted way to often.

When he learns to put the same kind of effort into both ends of the court this guy has the talent and strength to average 16 points and 12 boards in his rookie year. A 20-20 game is always possible.

I was going to mention Cousins last night but I think he is going to have issues with foul trouble this season. He struggled with it in the pre-season and had some troubles in his 1st game. Not to mention his immature attitude at times that may get him some quick T's for griping after a foul. It doesn't take much to get a technical this early season, just even a slight head shake back and forth will T you up.

Blake was pretty active in the 1st half but I think he got tired in the 2nd half. He hadn't played full minutes in a real game in about 1.5 years. The Clippers were in it and they needed Blake to keep giving it all he had. He's not going to have much of a chance to rest this season, which should help his ROY chances.

John Wall had a monster game tonight vs. Philly. He had 29 points 13 assists and a franchise tieing 9 steals.

His 31 assists thru 3 games in an NBA record for a player playing his first games in the League.

At this rate, he might be challenging for MVP but I don't think your eligible for that in your rookie season. I can't remember, although I thought Lebron won it in his rookie season.

Shouldn't have been Evan Turner, he didn't prove anything this year.
