first - I thought it was a decent crowd given the late Sunday evening time slot -- which as explained elsewhere was about the only day/time they could do it..
But -- as a 2nd point -- I guess I am puzzled that we're hearing such polar opposite complaints...
One argument says BU should not hold men's basketball events on campus since they're worried someone who wants tickets won't be able to get a ticket as they'll get shut out -- and now we see a lot of fantastic seats sitting unoccupied!

--as for prices and taking cash only -- how about some well-deserved props for the fact that all the food items at the concessions were incredibly cheap compared to downtown...and if there's enough call for accepting charge cards - I am sure that in time they'll do it but it's just not set up yet.
I was astounded when I bought popcorn, a 20 oz bottled beverage, and a candy item and still got plenty back from a $5 bill! Each one of those items would have been $3-4.75 downtown...
So I contend that you can complain about the admission charge, but to sit within the first couple rows at mid-court ($10) was still considerably less than half the price of doing same downtown -- and if you buy concessions at all, then in the long run you're gonna save 50%+ of what you'd have spent buying those items downtown.
I understand the many valid reasons why people weren??™t there, but to me that still was a poor crowd. Of course, I??™m sure I do have some unrealistic expectations, but that??™s the way I saw it. It worked out good for me though, since it allowed my family good seating. It was just a red/white game, so I can let it go, however had this been a game that counted, I would expect it to be sold out with ???butts in seats???, no matter who were playing. I still believe $10 was too much, as I can get lower bowl during the season for $10 to a real game. Make it $5 next year if you have to charge something. I??™m also in favor of playing some games at the new arena, especially if it were a lesser post season tournament game or two.

I did indeed notice the reduced cost for items which is a good thing. Hopefully it stays that way. In the end, them not taking my plastic saved me some money.

I also wanted to add that the Bradley team shop and hall of fame are nice touches. They really need to figure out a way to sell more BU merchandise at the Civic Center as I think it would be positive. As a side note, don??™t ever park in the garage across from the arena. I can??™t imagine trying to get out of there if it were a real game with a packed house in attendance??¦

I doubt you will see a "lesser" post season tourney game or two there becuase IF BU fails to make the NCAA or the NIT and gets invited to an "EIEIEO" tourney I seriously doubt we will accept the invitation. At least I HOPE not.....

Why do you say that... dog?

If there was an EIEIO golf tournament, YOU would play in it (and probably win it!)

Why not BU go win a tournament?

Its just my personal opinion. I think it would be a HUGE letdown and we would not accept the invite. Jim sent a message last year turning one down and I can't see him saying..."ok, you got the message, lets go play in another tourney NOT named the NCAA/NIT.

Its all a mute point anyway...we are going to the BIG dance this year.

Agreed DRU, the NIT would 'stay' me over for a while, depending on the circumstances, but another also-ran tourney and I think it's time to change things up.

            • Oh for the record. I just remembered this.

Students get an email called "Hilltop Happenings"

Our latest one didn't even mention the RED/WHITE SCRIMMAGE!

I emailed the sender asking about it.....they said they weren't given any notification from the athletics department....

this might have helped student participation...

I think we need to change our style, in that we need to get much better play out of the 5 spot, not more minutes out of guys who happen to be taller than 6-8.
                AMC,
                We semi agree!

Unless those 6'8" players happen to get better the next year and our better small players are getting killed on the boards, and can't stop opposition inside. Then go big, and go zone!

                  OOPS!

Once again, we have evidence that there is a disconnect between the Athletic Department and the student body! That is terrible, but it does not surprise me!

Exactly! If part of the reasoning behind having such events on campus is to increase student attendance/participation, then why would the school not promote the only men's basketball game at the new arena?
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

                      • Until someone gets the full support of the sorority"s and fraternities to participate in getting their members to attend BU will never get the number of students they hope to have at these games.

I agree. It takes some groundwork to do that, but I think that it could be done. I still believe that a proactive Athletic Department can accomplish a lot of things!
