Red-White scrimmage

I realize that these events are scheduled way in advance, but why not have the Volleyball game for 2pm on a given Saturday and have the red/white scrimmage set for 6pm for the future? People have to multi-task on their daily jobs and I don't see why this can not be done in the future.

The MVC has rules regarding the scheduling of other events in the same venue on the same day as league events. Maybe that precluded it.
Also, both teams have to agree on dates and times, so maybe they were not able to pick a different time for the volleyball match- it is not simply up to Bradley to make those decisions, it requires the other team, and the MVC to agree. I don't know all the rules that need to be followed, but I have heard from Bradley that the volleyball game, regardless of time, would not allow for the scrimmage on Saturday.

T we do prefer evening events, so we can get our nap in. First time in the building. What a beautiful place. Just wish it held 10,000 or so. Understand the reason for 10 min.halves,do to only 11 healthy bodies. Maybe $10 to much for what we saw but no big deal. Not sure I understand why not more students? Great place to watch a game.

Are we talking volleyball game here? Personally, I have never been to a volleyball game. If so, what type of attendance are we talking about for a typical volleyball game?

People wanted a Red-White scrimmage, so Bradley gave them what they wanted. Before attacking the idea of the event on a Sunday PM realize that that was the only reasonable time and day to have it. They didn't pick the Sunday night out of the air. First, the Red-White scrimmage is officially defined as a practice by the NCAA rules, and thus, the players are not allowed to miss schoolwork or classes for it. That essentially ruled out any week night, since several players have classes, and would have had to miss the scrimmage. And besides, if they had held it on a weeknight, there probably would have been complaints about that, too.
And note that the Volleyball team had scheduled home conference matches on both Friday night, Oct. 22 (Creighton) and Saturday, Oct. 23 (Drake- though this match was moved to Sunday noon because of the funeral for Phil kaiser). Those games are scheduled by the MVC and take priority over a men's BB practice. That meant that the scrimmage could not be scheduled for this past Friday or Saturday. And next weekend, Bradley is playing an important closed scrimmage against Iowa State at the Arena, so that ruled out next weekend, as the team was not going to play on back-to-back days. And, of course, the following weekend Bradley plays Quincy in an exhibition game, ruling out that weekend. Plus, people would have complained anyway if the Red-White wasn't scheduled until that late.

So please realize Bradley does try to schedule these events considering what is best for the fans, and they do a great job. However, fans must realize some of the circumstances that go into the decision. Yesterday's date and time was the best available time for this event.

If you take a deep breath, relax and READ what I clearly stated it would have saved you from a 2 paragraph disertation defending BU when it wasn't necessary in the first place.

I said i UNDERSTAND why events like THIS one are played on Sunday but seeings how poorly attended it was it shows that Sundays are terrible for games.

Question...even though I CLEARLY wasn't "attacking" that word is growing old with many posters I speak with. Its as tired and old as the not a "real fan" accusations, anti this n that. In fact its borderline offensive to the loyal fans that just are expressing a simple opinion. Can that stuff stop? If you or anyone disagrees with what I or anyone said why not just discuss the facts instead of making about the poster. You KNOW I care about BU as much as ANYONE.

But since I DO care about BU and all things regarding BU hoops that means I won't sugarcoat how I feel. When/IF BU goofs up ...I'm going to give my opinion.


IF thats not acceptable please let me know so I don't waste my time anymore being ripped for something as simple and mundane as saying I think Sundays are bad for mens hoops. It isn't done to "attack" its done becuase I want BU to succeed and for sellouts to see events/games not 33% of capacity like last nite.

understand... if possible given regulations etc I was talking about having the volleyball game in the afternoon with the red/white scrimmage at night. I would think that the volleyball attendance would be fairly similar and we could have the red/white at night for the regulars and donors etc!

Sorry that I couldn't make it last night but thanks to those who were there for all of your reports. Other then the complaints about length of time and the fact that some had to watch the women play (by the way I enjowy taking my granddaughters to watch them just so they know what they can also achieve) it sounds like most had a good time.

Prosser is ready to contribute as he can rebound score and defend, of course he will make some mistakes but with his size and good hands he will be a threat coming off the bench, doubt many teams in the Valley have anyone like him in reserve, Lemon is one of the best freshman players as far as talent that we have had in a long time as he is a great defender with his length and quickness, A.Davis appears to be very versatile and should also help this year so we have a great freshman class , if our bigs continue to improve and play physical like they did last night then there is no reason why we cannot compete for 1st.

If you just look at the minutes played each of the past 3 years by NON-Guards for Bradley

2007-2008- 33% of total minutes
2008-2009- 36% of total minutes
2009-2010- 35% of total minutes

then you'd certainly have to figure that LESS than 40% of the total minutes again this year will go to non-guards..
that would mean 60 to 80 mpg....and you know both TB and WE, unless injured are going to get at least 50-60 of those minutes...

And Davis is at least 5th or 6th among non-guards in line for those minutes (Egolf, TB, Prosser, AT, MK would all likely be ahead of him)
I would thus forsee less than 6-8 mpg being available for Davis, and so he might make the decision.......

I don't see how that changes next season either, when we have one more non-guard added to the mix. Of course, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have SH redshirt just to get him back in basketball shape, both mentally and physically.

There's a different way of looking at it:
Two positions on the court are "big," the 4 and the 5. Which means you have about 80 minutes. The flaw in your reasoning is if TB takes all of his minutes at the 4 or spends some of his time at the 3. If TB spends 10 minutes at the 3 and 15 minutes at the 4, and Egolf 15-20 minutes at the 4 or 5, you have 45-50 minutes left for other "bigs."

???Some days Pross is unstoppable in there (rebounding),??? Les said. ???He??™s so strong now and physical and has a good nose for the ball. (Thompson) can go get ??™em with his length. His bigger build has allowed him to hold position.???

If those guys are truly ready to contribute on a nightly basis, the outlook of our season changes dramatically IMO.

But he is slow off his feet, and his one block came off JP I believe which is troubling.

Regarding scheduling of the event.

As DC has already posted, this was one of the only weekends that this event could be held. This weekend was jam packed with Bradley events.

I have a friend that works in the athletic department...we were talking about this past weekend...and they told me that it was one of the busiest weekends that they remember.

Friday there was a volleyball game. Saturday there was supposed to be a volleyball game but it was moved so members of the volleyball team could attend the memorial services for Phil Kaiser - but that didn't matter because nearly all of the staff from the athletic department was involved in set up, operations, or take down of the Bids for Braves auction.

That leaves Sunday...rescheduled volleyball game at Noon, soccer at 2, and then the Red/White.

I personally think that they did a pretty good job of fitting it all in.
