  • Red-White scrimmage

The mens scrimmage is underway. 4 players are sitting out with minor injuries:
Will Egolf, Sam Maniscalco, Taylor Brown, and Jordan Brown.

Jordan Prosser, Jake Eastman, AT, AW, Walt Lemon, and DSE really have impressed me so far.

Does anyone know the details on the injuries? Hopefully, they're not playing out of an abundance of caution, but it makes me nervous having 3 starters sitting out.

        Just got back.

Anyway, the White team (led by none other than #10 ) killed the red team, I think it was by 17 points. I realize that the score does not matter in the end, but what seemed to be a theme (especially towards the end) was a lot of turnovers and some open looks as well from the inside.

Perhaps one of the best moments was not one, but TWO, buzzer beaters. The first was one of the teams was killing clock passing from corner of their court to another and one of the players just heaved it from three as the shot clock hit zero.

The second time was the close out of the first half.

I don't know if it was the weather that had an impact, but there were swaths of empty seats on the north side of the court. Both the west and east were pretty full. Outside of the basketball band and a few Red Sea members sprinkled about, not too many students bothered to show.

When Coach Buscher was speaking after the women's scrimmage, I could barely hear her (it was loud, but muffled). I guess they fixed it when SM and AW spoke to the crowd at the end of their scrimmage.

Les looks like Pat Riley with that hair-do.

Dissapointing crowd.....less than half full....NO students. Yeah its YOUR team. NOT.

As DC stated,,,threee amigos out. Understanding its ONE game I saw, Lemon quick, good defender not a great shooter. Great to have Dodie back. Sticks, some good putbacks....not the greatest hands....but getting better.

Prosser is strong...RS was great for him...now lets RS Davis. Milos probably had the worst game of any..again ONE game but he looked pretty bad. NOT making judgements, just reporting what I saw.

Loved the DSE/DD matchup most of the night. The kid from Geneseo can shoot but he'll never see the floor.

We didn't look to go low much from what I saw but again, your best big was out.

JE can really get to the rim....he won't be the star but he's the kinda guy that really can make the team better. I like him alot.

          Keep workin guys....

Oh...small scare, saw Dodie pull up hurt late grabbing his hip. He then went hard to the basket and looked fine. Will be interesting to hear if he tweaked something. Probably not but it was scary.

            The injuries are nothing serious-
Sam Maniscalco still nursing some soreness in his ankle; Will slightly sprained an ankle; TB had a minor leg injury, and I do not know the story on Jordan Brown. He looked healthy, so don't know for sure if it was an injury.

Walt Lemon looked pretty comfortable running the point, as did DSE. Jordan Prosser played much stronger than he was capable last year. AT had some very good moments, and is a very quick leaper. He should get some blocks and putbacks. Andrew Davis showed some skills and the ability to finish, but he may be a candidate to redshirt. Jake played with tremendous energy, and picked up some loose balls and scored a little. He will contribute some most games. DD looked good, but his shot was off a little. AW looked smooth and made a couple shots. Milos made his first shot, but then missed a couple. He looked a little quicker than last year.
Charonn Woods and Aaron Ganson may have played as many or more minutes as anyone, and looked capable of handling the ball, and Ganson made some long jumpers.

They did make trades at the 1/2 AND, if you noticed, JL adjusted the score putting the red team that was stacked, down by about 15 to start the 2nd half.

With that said the "scrubs" smoked the regulars.....

                First of all the red-white use to be a 40 minute game, I think if you play only 20 minutes with the clock running people will not come, I know there are probably 50 to 75 great student fans that attend regularly but to have so few in attendance on their own campus speaks for itself; now as far as my observation on the scrimmage;
DSE,J.E; D.D;W.L; J.P; played well, A.T. looked better, A.W. was ok, Milos looked slow and overmatched .
W.Lemon is a great defensive player and is very skilled at handling the ball , he just needs to not force shots, J.P. has great hands and seems to be ready to help this team off the bench, A.Davis has some good skills and could also help this team this year so I see no reason to redshirt him, I think we missed several shots that we normally will make because of fatigue and I guess it was because we practiced today, the thing I liked the best was we played tougher and were really mixing it up, look forward to the Quincy game.
ps. I thought our asst. coaches were all involved in the coaching process which we need and was different then the last several years.

And there were people near me grumbling paying $10, when they said it used to be free. I was a little surprised that the scrimmages went as fast as they did. The night is still young!

Injuries were very disappointing. A lot of players sitting out led to the walk-ons playing a ton.

                    Crowd was beyond poor.

The women's team looked pretty good. They seem to have a ton of shooters on the roster.

Men still need to work on their screens. Almost every one of them was weak.

I did like that the men seemed to be moving with and without the ball on offense. Also I liked the way they passed the ball on O.

I listened to the women's scrimmage. Sounds like they're going to have a really good team this season, looking forward to watching them play

They will have a great team. Their Freshman Kelly Frings goes about 6'2" and can shoot the outside shot. She amazed me tonight.!

Jordan Brown is the prefered walkon from Atlanta isn't he?
