  • 2 top players at St. Louis U dismissed

Two of Rick Majerus' top players have been dismissed from SLU.

There are other media reports that say they are suspended and not dismissed. Not sure who's right. But all reports agree the players are not enrolled this semester.

a couple of new Post Dispatch stories on this situation

Top players Kwamain Mitchell and Willie Reed are no longer on the team — at least until January — amid allegations they sexually assaulted a female student.

Hmm...there have been people expecting this since last May...
when two unnamed Saint Louis basketball players were alleged to have raped a woman on campus..
As has happened so often lately (just recently at Michigan State)...the local authorities simply decided not to pursue the case....despite..
"It appears at the very least that there is sufficient evidence of violations
of university code of student conduct, which, if proven, would support
        disciplinary action including expulsion,"

The fact that these two player are now apparently expelled...fits this weird puzzle that has laid dormant all summer while people were asking for answers...
Data shows rapes on college campuses are skyrocketing..and frequently don't get prosecuted...

Want to do more for sexual assault prevention on your campus? You can get information about sexual assault prevention and response—including bystander intervention and healing resources—and start planning RAINN Day events on your campus.

BTW -- "Coach Rick Majerus tells FOX 2 he has been instructed not to talk.
Athletic Director Chris May told said he wouldn't and couldn't comment beyond the statement."

on their boards -- the main topic of the talk is that the fans mostly seem to want the guys reinstated, and point to the fact that the only info given is that they "no longer enrolled" and therefore not necessarily "expelled"!!

One guy is so mad and feels so cheated that two of his favorite players were booted, that he says this...
"Not giving SLU another dime...losing the $2500 I shell out for season tickets every year
won't exactly bankrupt a University which boasts a $900 million dollar enrollment,
but there is no other avenue available to those who would like to protest this decision.
We could write to May and Biondi but they had nothing to do with it."

T.. I hope I am misintrepeting your comments.. But it sounds like you are implying a university code of student conduct hearing proves their guilt or that there is enough evidence to prosecute. WOW! Did you read the one link I posted where the accused was allowed to bring in an attorney to present her case.. while the accused could not have their parents with them and were given only another student to represent them at this hearing? Now this was all according to father of one of the players. But if true this sound like a case where the deck was stacked against the players.

The love for SLU is not that great in St. Louis that prosecutors would drop a case against these kids if they had the evidence to make it stick.

I don't know what these kids did or did not do. But I am relatively confident prosecutors evaluated the evidence honestly and determined there was not enough to file charges.

I read the main article and to say the least was confused.

Bigger city than peoria obviously with more media..

But if this happened to say sammy and andrew, and there was no comment from the university, we would all be up in arms..

Same token if the players did something and the university was covering it up we would be up in arms..

I would just say, i hope the truth dictates the pushiment or lack thereof.

and many times especially when alcohol is involved....no one actually knows the truth

SLU is not a big deal in St. Louis. Mizzou is far more popular and gets more media attention. Bradley is a much bigger deal in Peoria than SLU in St. Louis. This story was covered up by the SLU. I'm surprised and disappointed that it took them this long to dismiss these players. The story down there was far beyond "sexual assault." Think Ben Roethlisberger.

A lot of what I know of this is 2nd hand information from high up at SLU. I've heard a lot more than what I wrote, and it's from an extremely reliable source. The players are lucky that they aren't in jail.
JL are not respunsible foor the string of injunrys....

Willie Reed is being welcomed at Kansas State and appears to be transferring there.

Rumor is that in an effort to appease Majerus, the administration will allow Kwamain Mitchell will re-enroll at SLU for 2nd semester, possibly take the season as a redshirt year, and then be eligible again...maybe next year

I believe this is the same link I posted Saturday. And were does it say he's being welcomed at K-State?
They may.. but the only quotes I've seen from K-State officials are they were not aware Reed was enrolling.

Only a matter of days after being booted at SLU, this projected 1st round NBA draft pick is registering at K-State. Is there any doubt he was welcomed by the coaching staff there?
K-State doesn't even have a scholarship open currently!
Reed's father stated to the press that they would look for another school right away where he'd be able to not only play basketball but " have a fresh start, start over.."

I am incredibly embarrassed of how SLU handled this situation. Something should have been done before midterms of the following semester. Suspending players on the week that official practice starts is bad for the school and the student athlete involved. (from all sources willie reed wasnt actually going to class, apparently happy with his place in majerus' dog house, and would have been ineligible anyways).

The unfortunate thing is that the "student" court that handled this was made up of female tenured professors (several who lead the feminist group on campus), talk about a fair trial....heh..
