  • Bradley's schedule rated toughest in MVC

This guy who writes a blog for Creighton puts a little effort into rating the schedules, using RPI data along with data from at least four other rating services...
He has now ranked this year's non-conference schedules based on his data...and guess which MVC team has the toughest schedule??

He rates Bradley's schedule at the top, and the last place team -- way, way behind anyone and everyone else...is ISU....

"Bradley appears to be at the top of the Valley in this ranking of non-conference schedules..."

    School Average Non-Conference RPI
    Bradley 153.00
    Missouri State 155.02
    Southern Illinois 169.00
    Indiana State 169.60
    Northern Iowa 169.68
    Wichita State 174.39
    Evansville 180.33
    Creighton 190.83
    Drake 213.55
    Illinois State 226.18

How well did the Valley schools schedule in the non-con, based on last year's RPI rankings?

But, here's a real eye-opener...the guy also checks the numbers for the PAST THREE SEASONS,
and BU is right at the top every year!

    one last comment --
"I didn’t think it would be possible for Illinois State to schedule a worse non-con slate than 2009-2010.
But at a quick glance, it looks like Tim Jankovich may have proved me wrong!"

Should help BU's post season chances in NCAA or NIT if BU has a good season this year.

Scheduling has always been the one thing that Les is masterful at.

To me, this is the trend worth noting: In the last 3 years, the average RPI of Bradley opponents is in the 150's.

2 years ago, that was good only for the 5th best schedule in the MVC.
Last year, it was good for 2nd best in the MVC.
This year, it is good for the best in the MVC.

We're holding steady and everyone else is falling. That is a concern for the league as a whole.

It is a concern for Mid-Majors as a whole. Can't get the good games if they won't schedule you.

          MVC is in a bind.

To get tougher schedules, MVC teams need to get better and improve their RPI's so playing them, and winning or losing, helps, and not hurts, the opposition's RPI.

Teams with better RPI must look at playing MVC teams as a "no win" situation. They should win vs MVC so no help to their RIP, but if they lose vs MVC Team, hurts their RPI.

MVC needs to start whipping teams with higher RPI's than they have, and make some more spashes in preseason tournaments and post season NCAA/NIT to bolster MVC Conference and MVC teams' RPI's...

Let's give Les credit for recruiting very good guards too - at least being head coach of the guards that were recruited (not sure if he was directly involved in all the recruiting)

Here's another top ten schedule (non-conference) for all D1 teams, don't know if it was posted here. Duke is rated #8, on page two of the article. The article lists key games for the top ten schedules. The article lists key scheduled home games for Duke as St. Louis, UAB, and Temple; I would have thought Bradley could have got a mention We can't even imagine, yes we can, how great a win at Duke would be for our program!

indirectly Bradley did get a mention, since they make up part of Duke's non-conference schedule that is so highly rated.
