SM has been the starting point guard on a team that went to the finals of the CIT and one that won exactly nothing.
Ruffin wasnt exactly incapable of winning big games.

I don't think anyone continued with that line once it was known that he'd been hurt and they fixed it because he went from pretty bad to very very good almost like it was a light switch.
I also think a key stat is that Ruffin's senior year, when he had the load, he averaged 4.0 turnovers a game, that's far too many for a PG. Not too mention ruffin 'greyshirted' a year which meant he was older (Ruffin was older to begin with as well), though, as much as I'd take SM over DRuff, Sam could have easily redshirted if he wanted to, so that doesn't have too much bearing on the discussion.

SM or DR would sort of depend on who the other players on the hypothetical team would be. They are different types of players who bring different skills.
You could make a case for either player depending on who they would be playing with...
Since you can't coach quickness or speed, would have to be DR as the point guard of a new team: quickness, speed, ability to disrupt defensively, ability to penetrate offensively....BUilding for the Future

But anyway, BU beat KU by 4 and Ruffin has 11 pts and 7 assists so he lead to atleast 25pts. The scoreboard difference was again 4 points.
We beat Pitt by 8 he had 4 pts and 4 assists and zero turnovers... so he lead to atleast 12 pts.
Just because you do not hit a game winning shot or whatever does not mean you do not make a direct difference in a game and specifically on the scoreboard. Especially if your contribution exceeds the difference on the scoreboard.
I have no idea what SM would have done with POB or Cellus, but the facts remain, Ruffin was the point guard on a team that won 2 NCAA games.
They both are very very good players and there isnt a huge difference between the two. But at the end of day Ruffins team won big and SM's are still a work in progress.

This is an intersting comparison....
Both are/were good for sure. With SM you knew pretty much what to expect. He doesn't seem to get out of control too much.
With DR you weren't totally sure each night out but he could also pull off the unbelievable plays from time to time.
I think I would go with DR. His pressure on D gives him the edge IMO.

I'd love to have both on my team to use at different times in the game and against different teams.
You hot ,you cold This just don't match up with the Braves4Life (The King of Avatars) we have become to know
Oh, let me guess who your avatar exemplifies; Its Daddy Wilkins, after finding out his son just verbled to BU

This is an interesting topic for sure. I don't think I'll vote, because I think both are good in different ways. Ruff was unbelievably quick and had big wins, but Sammy is just a great leader with tremendous toughness.
I would probably take Sammy if I had to vote because I like his unequalled leadership abilities and that he is a person you can trust to stay out of trouble off the court. But I'd take either any day!
