  • BU HOF'er Wes Mason

Last week, Bloom Township High School honored the late coaching legend Wes Mason by renaming the court at Bloom Township High School “Wes Mason Court” in his honor. Older BU fans will remember Wes Mason.
He is a BU Hall of Fame basketball player who died in 1991 at the age of 54. He played at Bradley from 1955-1958. He was a member of the 1957 Bradley NIT championship team.
After graduating from Bradley, he went into coaching at the high school level. He coached at several small high schools before settling at Bloom Township HS in Chicago Heights, Illinois in 1963. He was the varsity coach there from 1967 through 1982. He won 317 games in his 15-year varsity tenure. His teams won 13 regional championships, five sectional crowns and finished runnerup in the IHSA Class AA tournament in 1974 and 1975. Under his coaching, Bloom produced a dozen All-State players and several major college stars, as well as numerous small colleges players.
