  • 2 Michigan State players accused of assault

Note especially how different this case was handled from other cases we have been familiar with.-
EAST LANSING — Documents obtained by Michigan Messenger show two high-profile Michigan State University basketball players have been accused of

    In this Michigan State case-
    It happened back in August!
It just surfaced in the news yesterday, a full month after it occurred!
Almost no media has touched the story, just some local Michigan news website, and they had to file under the Freedom of Information Act to even obtain the documents detailing the story.
    The documents are "heavily redacted".
It reports that 2 players restrained and took turns sexually assaulting the woman in a dorm room.
One of the players admitted that the woman's story was true! And that the sexual assault continued without the woman's consent.
Still, they refuse to publish the names of the players.
The police recommended the players be charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct 1 — the most serious level of sexual assault under state law.
The prosecutors have refused to pursue charges against the players, despite one of them admitting they committed forceable sexual assault.

Now, contrast that with the case on the Bradley campus a couple years ago when the player was immediately arrested, and police and the prosecutor rushed to charge the player with a felony, later reduced to a misdemeanor. That player was named prominently in the media, and descriptions of the supposed assault were greatly exaggerated. Calls for the player's dismissal came immediately, and Bradley was accused by many of not punishing him severely enough, despite his immediate suspension. The victim's injury was minor, and did not involve sexual assault or forceable restraint, and she even requested the charges be dropped against the BU player. But there are still people who think he was not punished enough, and should have been dismissed. And of course we recall the hysteria by certain members of the media who felt it was their civic duty to demand Bradley be accountable and do more, and label the BU program renegade.

I guess the media in Michigan handle things a little differently. And I suspect the prosecutor is not up for re-election.

We always talk and hear about how professional, respected and honest Izzo is. If what was written is anywhere near what actually happened and this DA wont do something about it, then Izzo needs to step up and do something.

That article and what was written in it is simply sickening on several levels.

Thanks houston, that's exactly the way I feel, and I am glad I am not out on a limb with those sentiments. I think the police, prosecutor's office, and the media has been complicit in a big coverup.

It is rumored that both players are prominent players. This assault reportedly occurred late on Sunday night, August 29 and on into August 30, after midnight -- according to numerous reports...one was rumored to be Lucious..but that's apparently not true..
.....the assault took place about midnight and after on Sun. Aug. 29 and then 30th

One of MSU's star players, Korie Lucious also just happened to be arrested at about 2AM on Monday, August 30 and ticketed for reckless driving and driving while drunk (.09) trying to get home from somewhere. The arrest occurred at the intersection of Charles & Linden Sts.in East Lansing, which is 3-4 blocks from where this assault reportedly had occurred (Wonders Residence Hall) just less than an hour or so earlier.

In the end Lucious' DUI has yet to be fully resolved, although he immediately was allowed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving and all the alcohol charges were mysteriously dropped, and his hearing for sentencing isn't 'til late December.
Keep in mind, Lucious is not even 21 years old yet and the mere presence of any alcohol (0.01) in his test should still be grounds for the "renegade" label as we have seen.
....but no mention yet by anyone of suspension or discipline, and the only comment from Izzo is...
"Coach Tom Izzo said he was disappointed in Lucious and that the program looked forward to "moving past this.""

What seem strange is that the names of the players were not redacted in the records obtained by the media through the Freedom of Information Act request, and thus they are known by the media. But all the media so far have avoided reporting the names, though they are described as prominent members of the team.
I suspect the names will eventually come out, since they are public record, but I find it interesting the length the media in Michigan goes to protect these players.

This does not seem typical of a Tom Izzo program and I'm betting he is doing something about this out of the spotlight. If not I'd be very disappointed.

Its pretty tough to judge these things from a distance and from reading a few blogs about the topic. I don't know how people can make blanket statements but thats fine. Heck, I don't even know why Bradley fans care so much.

Anyway, Im sure Tom Izzo is handling it appropriately.

                Incase anyone was wondering.....

The players appear to be Keith Appling and Adreian Payne

They won't give the names on the MSU board, but Illinos Loyalty doesn't care.

It happened in a dorm and these two are the only players living in the dorms.

Good way to start your MSU career.

EDIT: This isn't just someones guess apparently....it appears to be reliable
