I thought Kirk did an excellent job in his piece today. Coach seems very hurt by this latest firing on the Hilltop.

I bash Kirk quite a bit, but I thought that this was a good article. I also believe that Dr Cross needs to reinstate Joe Stowell to the Hall of Fame committee. Removing Stowell from that committee is sheer stupidity

I TOTALLY AGREE With all the changes in the last year, this one is over the top Here is a guy that bleeds Red and White, been involved and done more for BU, BU BB/ ITS PLAYERS and BU Sports then just about anyone else affiliated with BU, getting a Royal F**k** by the Queen and her Court

Coach Stowell deserves better....a lesser man would have walked away years ago....thank God for men like Coach Stowell for having passion for the Hilltop like no other!

I'm usually not much of a KW fan but his instincts on this article are spot on. He backs up his opinion this time with common sense and facts. I also agree it should not be the announcers job, especially the color guy, to be a cheerleader.

Coach Stowell has always been one of if not the biggest supporter of Bradley University ever and I too wonder why they continue to fire him; why is this new administration running off all the good coaches and staff that have been loyal for so many years, the board needs to be watching what is happening very closely because things appear to be out of control.

I don't think anyone can even argue about the HOF committee, he should be the chairperson. But on the radio he was definitely weak, I think he should do pregame and then giveway to someone else (though I think I'd rather have him than DA).

I hope this is not a very stupid question, but was Coach released from the mens broadcasts because of budget cuts? I assume he'll only do the women's basketball contests at home, correct?

One can only imagine the Black Eye this gives BU to all the other schools, their fans, sports writers and anyone who new of anything of/about Coach Stowell and his long time association, dedication, and love for BU

It had nothing to do with budget cuts, the job has never been a high-paying job. Both Bradley and WMBD wanted a team that would be together for every game, and Coach Stowell only wants to do home games. That would make the transition with Danny Adams difficult. There are other reasons, but not worth mentioning.

I love Coach Stowell, but it was time for a change. This was the right move, long overdue, and I congratulate BU, Dave and Danny, and WMBD. I appreciate all that Coach Stowell has given to BU in the years he was employed.

If you are talking about removing Stowell from the radio broadcast, then I could see how you would think that this is not a big deal. However, removing Stowell from the BU Hall of Fame committee is a classless act by Dr Cross and President Glasser

I sort of see where you are coming from Coach, but I'm not sure KW was making a big deal out of this. Obviously you know from many of my past posts that I am in no way a KW fan either, though I will be the first to credit him those rare times he gets things right. I think here he was stating facts and just stating that he disagreed with the decision of the administration. He did not call for anyone to quit or be fired, he just did not agree that the time was right to fire Coach Stowell, particularly from the HOF board.

That said, I too think it was not necessary to fire Stowell from the radio booth. I remember Harry Caray announcing for the Cubs long after he should have been let go since he was just not the same after his stroke. But Coach Stowell is still as sharp as a stick and is capable of being a commentator until the time comes that he no longer has the skills to do so. Agreed that maybe the three man booth arrangement did not work out, and at his age he did not feel like taking anymore road trips, but a split arrangement in having Adams call only road games while Stowell stays at home (both being a two man setup) would work fine for the next year or two until Adams gains the experience he needs to become a full time commentator. Perhaps instead of just dumping Stowell immediately, they should have given him one final year for a proper send off while Adams gets his feet wet. Either way I think the whole situation should have been handled better since you don't just push a legend out for the sake of it, especially a man who still has the capabilites to perform his job. There's plenty of time to establish a proper two man booth and Stowell could not be a better mentor for Adams to gain the experience he needs.

We may have to agree to disagree on the radio firing, but regarding the HOF firing, I think many agree that that was the more surprising firing and one that perplexes me the most. I'm hoping that the adminstration does do the right thing as they stated by reinstating him next year when the next three year vacancy opens up.
