  • Carmelo headed to NY Knicks

There are strong rumors that Carmelo Anthony will be traded to the New Jersey Nets in a 4-team deal.-

Report: Carmelo Anthony Heading to Nets in Multi-Team Deal
Carmelo Anthony could be one signature away from leaving Denver.  Although Anthony has expressed his desire to play for either the Knicks or Bulls, he might have to settle for playing on the other side of the Hudson River, according to multiple reports. ESPN and Yahoo are reporting that the Nets, Nuggets, Jazz and Bobcats are […]

But the latest rumor is that Denver is dragging it's feet and trying to get more for Anthony, and that a 5th team is being sought to be included because the Charlotte Hornets do not want to part with D.J. Augustin-

The Carmelo Anthony deal to the New Jersey Nets is on hold while the Denver Nuggets look for a better deal. This could mean the Bulls are still a possibility, but the Bulls' refusal to include Joakim Noah has stalled a deal to Chicago.
Apparently, Anthony would prefer a trade to the Bulls or Knicks, but his wife would prefer the Knicks or Nets.
It appears that the Denver Nuggets will convene for their annual media day Monday afternoon with Carmelo Anthony still on their payroll.

After months of trying to swing a deal for Carmelo Anthony, the New Jersey Nets have pulled out and are no longer negotiating. This article is an interesting read about how carmelo, and perhaps the Nugets tried to play the Nets-

But now Carmelo's agent, William "World Wide Wes" Wesley is in Chicago to try to rekindle trade talks with the Bulls. Those broke off months ago when the asking price was way too high. But some sources are reporting that the Bulls aren't interested, and other sources suggest the Bulls are interested if they do not have to part with Joakim Noah. The Bulls supposedly would be willing to trade Taj Gibson, Luol Deng, and their 1st round pick, plus the 1st rounder they have from Charlotte, but would want assurances Carmelo would sign a contract extension.
Carmelo Anthony courting Chicago Bulls with Nets deal done-
Carmelo Anthony's agents are flying to Chicago for the games Thursday and Saturday in the hopes of rejuvenating interest in the superstar, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports ...

Some people think that makes the NY Knicks the default winners in the Carmelo sweepstakes. But the Knicks don't realy have anything substantial to trade, so a deal with them seems unlikely. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out. The Denver Nuggest are desperate to trade Carmelo, as he has made it clear he will not sign with them and will leave for free agency after this season, and the Nuggests do not want to lose him and get nothing (ala Cleveland- see where they are after losing LeBron).

The Carmelo trade rumors are going strong again.
The Knicks have upped their trade offer to include forwards Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, point guard Raymond Felton, the expiring contract of center Eddy Curry and a first-round draft pick to be obtained from Minnesota. The Nuggets would also include point guard Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams in the deal.

The Nets reportedly have an offer the Nuggets have agreed to but it requires Carmelo agreeing to sign a 3-year extension. The Nets offer includes four No. 1 draft picks, along with rookie power forward Derrick Favors, guards Devin Harris and Ben Uzoh and the expiring contract of forward Troy Murphy and would receive Carmelo Anthony along with
Chauncey Billups, Melvin Ely, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams from Denver.

Here is the latest in the Carmelo Anthony soap opera.
The Knicks and Nets are still interested in acquiring Anthony before Thursday's NBA trading deadline. However, Carmelo seems to prefer the Knicks, and is refusing to sign a contract extension to allow the trade to the Nets. But the latest twist is that if the trade is pulled off between the Nuggets and the Knicks, the Nets are then talking to the Nuggets about acquiring some of the NY Knicks players by trading some of the abundance of 1st round draft picks they have.
The Nuggets want Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, and Timofy Mozgof plus a 1st round pick from the Knicks. That is a lot to give up (most of their starting lineup and production).-
If the Knicks trade for Carmelo Anthony, the Nets may acquire former Knicks from Denver, sources say.

It's a done deal - Melo is a Knick. They traded basically their whole team and future for him. Most Knick fans on the RealGM boards are livid with the trade, saying that it was all Isaiah Thomas's backroom dealing and that James Dolan listened to him over basketball-savvy Donnie Walsh, who is currently their GM.

I don't see how the Knicks are any better than 4th in the East any time soon, but never did I hear 'Melo mention winning was important. But hey, he got what he wanted!

OMG, Melo and Billups for the Knicks Felton, Gallinari, Chandler, a 1st round pick and 2 second round picks, along with $3 million. Felton on a great night can put up Melo numbers and CHandler can out gain Billups if given starter minutes. Absolutely horrible deal overall, the Knicks future is in serious trouble for a long long time. Denver must feel like they won the lottery.

                  Doubtful...

Knicks weren't going anywhere with the current crop and with Chandler and Felton having expiring contracts anyways, they're not even really necessary to bring up as good pieces...

I also hear that the Knicks are real serious about bringing in Chris Paul next yr so they'd have Melo, Amare, and CP3...

That should compete near the top of the conference.

Melo signing a max extension and a new CBA may make that impossible unless CP3 wants to take far less. While they put up great regular season numbers, I don't see a D'Antoni-led team ever being able to win a title. They simply don't defend and rebound enough to win in the NBA.

If I were NY I would see what it would take to get Steve Nash next year. No one runs D'Antoni's system better than him, and with his escalating age may be able to be had for 1-2 years on the cheap.

Over/Under on when Isaiah quits FIU and heads back to the Knick front office? I say 3 months - As soon as the Knicks are out of the playoffs.

I expected the Carmelo Anthony trade to hurt the NY Knicks, but I don't think anyone expected the results to be as bad as it has been.

Since the trade, the Knicks are just 7-12, but they are in a severe downward spiral, and in danger of dropping out of the playoff picture. After being drubbed by the Charlotte Bobcats last night, the Knicks have lost 6 straight, and 9 out of their last 10, and most of the losses have been to some of the worst teams in the NBA. They traded away several of their best shooters, and their 3-point shooting percentage is dropping fast.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Knicks team president Donnie Walsh last week referred to the Carmelo Anthony deal as a “monumental trade.” He did not realize the club would respond with a monum…

On the other hand, the Denver Nuggets have become one of the hottest teams in the NBA since the trade. They are 12-4 in their 16 games since the trade, and are now solidly in the #5 playoff spot in the West. And they have been doing it without one of the key components of the trade, Danilo Gallinari, who was been injured and missed 8 games. They are also the best shooting team in the NBA since the trade.

Carmelo should ask to be traded to the Heat -- then all heck would break loose there..
