  • Don Nelson out as coach of Golden State Warriors

Unusual timing to decide on a coaching change, just days before training camp starts. Don Nelson is reportedly out and former IU Hoosier Keith Smart will be the new coach of the Warriors-
The Golden State Warriors, with just a few days to go before the start of training camp, are on the verge of making a coaching change.

    Hip hip hooray!

The Warriors' new ownership group seems to know what they are doing.

Was it really Nelson's fault why he got cut? He does play young guys. Curry started a ton last year.

Nelson does not use a classic back-to-the-basket-type center

At one time I would have said he was one of the best coaches in the NBA. It wasn't working anymore though and I think a change was due.

He certainly historically prefered more moble 5's, guys that could step out and make shots and could fill lanes on a break.

But if you are a GM or owner and you know that Nelson prefers that type of 5, why in the world do you waste a #1 draft pick on a guy like O'Bryant?

All those wins as a head coach and not one NBA finals appearance.

Mike Montgomery was still the Warriors head coach when they selected PO'B on June 28, 2006. Don Nelson came along on August 29, 2006. I don't follow the NBA to know why Golden State waited until the end of August to buyout their head coach.

I'm sure it had to do with $$$$. The last owner was cheap and just wanted to make money.

Don't know why some still want to blame Don Nelson for POB failure as an NBA player. He's not the only coach who realized he's not NBA material. Wish he would prove me wrong and come back and make it.
