and get this...of all people it's a writer from Rutgers!!!
"Re:....... Villanova to the Big East in football — a good move?
It does nothing to enhance the league. It’s one thing if the Big East was
looking to get to a 12th team and Villanova was it. But as the ninth football
school and with the league’s future in doubt — and as the first major move
from new commissioner John Marinatto? Villanova brings nothing to the table
to stabilize the conference. A better idea is to give DePaul the boot (there’s
a precedent there with Temple) and add Central Florida."
so -- why pick on DePaul??? Honestly -- there are half a dozen other Big East schools that don't do football,
and although Rutgers has a 130 year history of football, the first 75 years were spent playing mostly against high schools and obscure, tiny little colleges nobody's ever heard of...and they don't exactly have the strongest recent tradition either...having winless seasons within the past decade......
and get this....in the past nearly 20 years --
Rutgers has a mere 1.7 more conference wins per year that DePaul does, and DePaul doesn't even have a football team!!!
