  • UNI lands a PG from TX

to finish out their 2011 class. Deon Mitchell claims offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Marquette in addition to the Panthers.

Mitchell must be "under the radar"....since he's not even mentioned in the scout.com database..
and Rivals has him listed but unrated...

He's listed variably from 5-10 to 6-0 and 170lb..but surely if Baylor, Arizona, Arizona State, Marquette, Colorado....all reportedly OFFERED this kid, then why is he still virtually unknown to the recruiting sites' database??

His team, Pflugerville, was 27-9 last year with Deon averaging 16 pts, 6 asst.

That's a good question tornado. Not sure why he's not in the Scout database. In his rivals.com profile via the Texas Hoops website (not the one you provided, as I'm not sure why TX ranking isn't on there), it says he's listed as the #23 player in the state of Texas. #22 is going to Memphis. Guys in the late 20's, 30's and 40's are going to Tulsa, Houston, and TCU.

In another article, it clarifies some things from a scholy point:
After an early offer from Marquette this past summer, Mitchell also received action from other high majors. Arizona State was interested but got a commit from hometown player, Jahii Carson. He's #3 on Baylor's list (they're trying to tie up Arkansas Wings Ty Madden) & #3 on Colorado's list (as they chase Cezar Guererro of Belmont Shore.)
Pflugerville's Deon Mitchell shown below with the Texas D-1 Ambassadors has given his verbal commitment to the University of Northern Iowa....

The rest of the article is good with info too. Sounds like he had an offer to ASU, but the offer got pulled (at most). Baylor and Colorado sound interested, but that he's more of a fall back option at this time. With him being UNI's top priority it looks like he likes that. Plus, with Kwadzo graduating, early time shouldn't be a problem. First UNI HS recruit from Texas that I can remember. UNI had 4 Texas guys on the team in the late Weaver, early McDermott era (Eric Smith- Colorado St transfer, Trey Austin- Houston transfer, Damon Gregory and Will Hagans- not sure which school they transferred from).

TexasHoops site is awesome -- I really wish we had something like it in Illinois...

that single site has more info on the high schoolers in Texas than just about the entire rest of the rivals database has on all the other high schoolers in the rest of the nation put together...

If any of our posters are considering a rivals subscription, that site alone kinda makes it worthwhile considering BU is recruiting a lot of kids from Texas..
