FIRSTLY its all about winning your conference if you are an autobid.....if you can't win your conference its all about winning the Tourney....then you rely on an invitation from the NCAA and THATS when the schedule is importaint.

The MVC is strong enough that finishing top two should get you in most years.

ISU schedules weak and can't get in becuase they fail win the conf./win tourney...

Some say..."they need to schedule better like BU....

BU schedules better but can't finish higher then 4th in the conf. and has NEVER won the tourney under Les.

Hmmm.....just how importaint is the scheduling?

Scheduling up HAS landed us 3 invites the Farmers bank EIEIO tourney.

Didn't Bradley get an At-Large bid in 2006? And I think they also got an NIT bid in 2007.

To me, analyzing schedules isn't about the end result of the season. This whole debate about schedules boils down to one thing: if you play to your potential, do you have a shot at an at-large bid? That is what the non-conference schedule should do for you.

Not playing good enough to get that bid isn't an issue of the non-conference schedule, it's a performance issue. Obviously an issue worth debating, but the point of analyzing schedules is NOT to analyze your own on-court performance. Just saying that the two things shouldn't be mixed in a thread like this.

When was the last time ISU got an at-large bid? Scheduling up definitely helps BU's case, and scheduling down clearly hurts ILSU's. Two years ago if ILSU played an even halfway decent schedule they are in the tournament. I understand the need to take shots at JL, but are you really saying that ILSU isn't hurting themselves and the conference with this schedule?

If you understand taking shots at JL then please explain it to me.....no really.

This thread seems to be turning into an ISU(red) vs. BU scheduling debate.
I didn't intend for it to go in this direction.
Let's try to keep it about the S.O.S. among all Valley teams based on the R.P.I. #'s that are provided.
              Thanks.

BU clearly schedules better, we're talking about getting into the tournament, BU has gotten into the tournament, ILSU hasn't, especially an at-large, for a very long time.

Explain to me, how the bolded isn't a shot at JL.

Come on DRU, you're better than that. I don't blame you for not liking JL, he has underperformed on the court. I like him, but I don't value winning above all else, it's opinion. One of the area's JL does excel at is scheduling, but you still find a way to take a shot at him. At least own it man.

You couldn't be further from the truth...I like JL, Know him well and appreciate everything he does for BU.

I don't hate anything except losing....as much as I like JL, IMO, he has underperformed He has had some good moments and runs what I feel is as clean a program as you can in the era.

My point is we schedule well but what exactly has it gotten us. 1 NCAA appearance.

ISU has what, 2 NIT's in that same span...OK we have them by 1.

To me we make a big deal about scheduling but its more about winning. Win the conference...win the tourney....

Your not going to see 2006 again where the Valleys 4th place team slides into the NCAA's.

Is it a shot at JL? Is it or is it not a true observation. You may or may not agree with DRU on what the causes are. But he doesn't suggest at any point in his post or anywhere in this thread as best I can tell what the cause of the lack of success is.

He is simply expressing some concern about the practice of scheduling.
