  • Mizzou's Hearlded Recruiting Class In Trouble

    From the Post-Dispatch

Even with classes having begun Monday in Columbia, Mizzou men's basketball recruit Ricardo Ratcliffe still is in Florida.

But he said in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon that he will be cleared to be eligible at Missouri this season if he finishes with a "C" or better in an online math class he is completing this week.

Ratliffe, a 6-foot-8 forward out of Central Florida Community College, was one of the nation's most coveted junior college players. He said he wished he could have been done and in Columbia by now but laughed and added, "But it's better than missing a whole year."

Ratliffe said he had not signed up for classes yet at MU but expected to do so upon arrival. The last day to add classes for the 16-week fall term is Monday, according to the registrar's office.

After initially saying Ratliffe was enrolled, the office now says he was admitted but not enrolled.

Ratliffe said he was unsure of the status of fellow recruit Tony Mitchell, a 5-star forward from Dallas. Mitchell was not enrolled at MU as of Tuesday morning.

Mitchell did not graduate with his high school class in the spring but is believed to have graduated this summer. Even if so, he needed to earn standardized test scores that would combine with his high school grade-point average to meet NCAA minimum standards.

He's probably taking the same online classes that Ricky Clemons took...
A formal investigation into the Missouri basketball program has yet to begin, but two facets have already been targeted for inquiry, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Since these players are not enrolled because of academic problems I have to believe that they will struggle if given real college courses; more then likely these guys will be taking bowling, archery and similar classes to stay eligible.

looks ike 1 out of 2 for Mizzou

              update from the post dispatch

Missouri men's basketball recruit Ricardo Ratliffe, one of the nation's most-coveted junior-college recruits, now is enrolled and eligible to play this season for the Tigers, according to MU men's basketball spokesman Dave Reiter.

Classes started on Monday at MU with Ratliffe still in Florida finishing an online course.

He told the Post-Dispatch earlier this week that he expected to be in Columbia by the end of the week.

Reiter said there was no update on the status of another prized recruit, Tony Mitchell of Dallas, Texas.

Mitchell this summer was attempting to make up for academic deficiencies, and his case may remain bogged down in the NCAA Eligibility Center. He was not enrolled as of earlier this week.

                NCAA rule #1 --
If you choose Kentucky, Duke, or any BCS-school you will be qualified - no sweat...
but if you choose Bradley or any mid-major who has had the gall to knock off a Kansas or a BCS school in the NCAA Tournament, then your players like Daniel Ruffin, John Wilkins, or Michael Ochereobia will be severely scrutinized and likely never get cleared.

Tony Mitchell out for Mizzou's fall semester

The case of prized MU men's basketball recruit Tony Mitchell remains in the NCAA Eligibility Center, thus leaving him unable to register for the fall semester with MU now in its second week of classes.

In a statement, Mizzou coach Mike Anderson said:

"Tony's case with the NCAA Eligibility Center remains under review, as has been the case for quite some time. However with our fall enrollment deadline having passed; he will be unable to join our program at this time. We remain hopeful Tony will be able to join us at a point later in the season. With that being said, we are very excited about this team and look forward to the 2011 season."

                    Here's a followup on ex-Mizzou commit Tony Mitchell - a former 5-STAR, TOP 20 recruit...

he ended up finding a school that accepted him and got him in despite his academic shortcomings...
he ended at North Texas...teamed with several other ex-top prospects who transferred in..
(Alonzo Edwards-Nebraska-ex-Klein Forest-teammate of Anthony Thompson, Roger Franklin-4-STAR, Top-50 kid who didn't pan out at Oklahoma State, & others)

This season he's averaging 14.8 ppg & 9.1 rpg (about the same as last year) but his team is terrible, 6-10 and even lost to a weak D-II opponent..
But the NBA scouts are still tracking him......

BTW - this USAToday story is very well written by an ISU guy who got his start at the Vidette & Pontiac Journal

this one, however, .....well - it isn't exactly very well written -- in fact - numerous times, he gets Dan Monson's name wrong...it can't just be a typo...
he calls Monson "MUNSON" more than a dozen times..........
