  • The Duke-Bradley game - historic significance??

Currently Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has 868 career victories.
That currently ranks 4th all time among D- men's college coaches...

The guy at the top right now is Knight, then Dean Smith is #2 at 879, the Adolph Rupp is #3 at 876.

The Duke schedule is not yet fully completed nor released, but tentatively the early part of the schedule looks like this...

Oct 15 - their "Madness" event that they call "Countdown to Craziness"
    Oct ?? St. Augustines (exhibition)
Nov ?? Cal Poly Pomona (exhibition)
    Nov 14 Princeton (Preseason CBE)
Nov 16 Miami, OH (Preseason CBE)
    Nov 19 Colgate
Nov 22 vs. Marquette (CBE Semi-Finals @ KC)
Nov 23 vs.Gonzaga/Kansas State (CBE Finals @ KC)
Nov 27 vs. Oregon (Rose Garden, Portland)
    Dec 1 Michigan State
    Dec 4 vs. Butler (Meadowlands)
    Dec 7 Bradley
    Dec 11 St. Louis

So --- given that some of the games in the CBE will hinge on winning and advancing...there's really no way to know
which of their games would be their NINTH GAME - or the one that they expect Coach K to pass Adolph Rupp to take over 3rd place all time..
but a lot of their fans are speculating that it would be the Bradley game...
Just one more reason for our guys to motivate and be sure that does not happen!!!

They're guaranteed 4 games in the CBE classic. So Bradley looks like game #9 on their schedule, and running the table to that point means the game to pass Rupp would be us.

If nothing else, this makes us a mortal lock to be on ESPN. Not like there was much doubt anyways.

I hope our guys go with the BU socks some have had in the past. Makes a serious statement being on ESPN too- a collegiate team not wearing professional basketball materials would be a culture shock to a lot of people, I'm sure.

I dont' think Duke will go undefeated before they play us - hope so, but the CBE final opponent, Mich. St., Butler all have a good chance to beat the Dukies.
Coach K doesn't take ANY opponent lightly. They'll be ready for us.

Duke doesn't even list a center on their team http://www.goduke.com/SportSelect.db...45&SPSID=22727 What do they play, a 3 forward offence, faking and weaving near the basket, so they are in position for easy shots and rebounds I hope this forces us to play big and it would bring us much publicity if we break their, what, 200 game home non-conference winning streak, I don't know the actual number. Looking forward to it.

JMO, I don't know, I think we need to play a flexible bigs zone defence againts them.

We have to HAVE bigs first before we can play them!

Unfortunately, our "bigs" consist of Will and Jordan - two guys who should probably be playing the four spot at an undersized 6' 9" and 6' 8". Perhaps we could get some minutes out of Anthony, but I'm not betting on it.

The game will be a good chance for Bradley to get on television. Let's not have the rose colored glasses too firmly planted on our faces!

I hope we don't get spanked... if we keep it under 20 I will be happy.

I've heard Dec. 7 and 8 as the possible date for the game, do we have anything certain saying one way or the other? Or is it still pending based on TV?

I hope this doesnt happen, tickets will be a lot harder to get from season ticket holders who otherwise would not go to the game.
                  Can we start winning soon?

Wed. Dec. 8 is the date that Bradley has stated the game will be played at Duke.
PEORIA, Ill. ? Marking the silver anniversary of the Bradley men's basketball team's last game against the defending national champion, Bradley will once again face the defending champ when the Braves visit Duke Dec. 8 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

I was looking at some of the Duke bios. Miles Plumlee is 6-10 with an amazing 35" vertical jump, second on the team. So that means the top of his head gets about 9-10 off the ground. I would think his arm might extend 2' above the top of his head, so what does this mean - he can get up about a foot and a half above the rim. He high jumped 6-9 in high school.

Will Egolf is 6-9, don't know his vertical, and high jumped 6-6 in high school. So that's a fairly close match.

I don't know whether we should front these guys or play behind them, I think we'd be over-matched weight wise if we play behind them. If we front them they're going to lob over us, if we play behind them they're going to push us back. We have to be quick on our feet and think. Hopefully our guards can cut down some of Duke's entry passes and hopefully our bigs can steal some of those entry passes.

It'll be interesting to see what strategy our coaches come up with when we play them.

Will be o.k. under 20, but happy within 10.
We'll get a lot of attention if we come within 6.
Got to defend for 40 min.
