  • Mens BB game in new facility

Having a regular season mens BB game in the new facility is a terrible idea and would almost certainly create great anamosity among season ticket holders and BU fans.
I have had season tickets and been an annual contributor for over 40 years and I would take such a move as an affront to my loyalty and support over the years. IMO there has to be an unstated agenda in all of this talk from the AD and others about doing this. My suggestion would be that they back off, wait a year or two, and then take another look if they truly want to do this.
Additionally, they need to understand that the BB program has been nothing but mediocre over the past 10 years and we need to upgrade our success level in terms of MVC finishes and post season tournaments other than meaningless second rate events.
Thus far, we are making progress with a teriffic new facility and a wonderful upgrade in our scheduling. Now, we need to Win, Win, Win and not stymie the progress we have made with dumb moves like a regular season home game in a 4,000 seat arena!

My suggestion would be that ya'll back off, wait til you see how this plays out and then take another look to see if you have blown things WAY the heck out of proportion.

IMO, a regular season home game in the "teriffic new facility" = a big fat W against almost anyone we would play. LOUD, rowdy crowd, virtually on top of the court will be awesome.

How about we start another thread b*tching and moaning like 12 year old girls who were told that they can't have a pony.

Isn't this board for the free expression and exchange of ideas and opinions from passionate BU fans......we should be glad people care. Would you rather have apathy or passion (what you call b*tching and moaning).

LG I like your approach...take a wait and see attitude...BU has always been very good to its fans - that's why there are so many loyal ones!!!
I see nothing that should make the fans groan so incessantly

I always look at the thread title first....if I don't like whats being discussed I just ignore it. Nothing wrong with you expressing YOUR opinion at all.

Agreed - I just thought someone had some news about what game...maybe when tickets go on sale, etc.

NOPE...its another thread complaining about something that hasn't even come to fruition yet.

Thanks for the tip though Dogs.

Agree...BU has always been good to its fans. Thats why many are surprised they would take away a game from those loyal fans that live and die for BU hoops.

The one thing I'm worried about is potentially shutting out a few thousand fans willing to pay to watch a regular season game. In theory, you can't argue you're creating this new venue and experience for the fans and then be forced to deny a bunch of them from attending and experiencing them.

Still, though, there's a lot of time here. Let's wait to hear something more official about how they plan to use this facility. Jumping to conclusions about its use is dangerous. Let's hear what they do, and their reasoning, before deciding if it is sound or not.

One benefit that hasn't really been talked about is that this facility should greatly reduce BU's bottom line. With the gift shop that will be in there, more revenue from concessions. . .the impact of those is even greater with a men's game there.

That change to the bottom line may mean Bradley can offer more lucrative contracts for buy games, in a market where the institution has become increasingly marginalized.

While it may not show in the first couple years, long term the thought here is will give Bradley more home games, and hopefully better opponents at Carver.

If the BU administration decides to have any mens basketball games in the new arena I will be convinced they are trying to dumb down expectations for the team and program and trying to kill anything good we have going for the program at the moment. I think it is completely illogical and retarded to host mens basketball games in such a small limited facility. Rediculous.

At what expense.....again reduce the bottom line on the backs of hundreds perhaps thousands of loyal BU fans. FOOLISH.

Agreed but ANY thoughts about shutting fans out has to be nixed before it gains any momentum.......

I have sent MY emails becuase it really hits home with me. AGAIN...BU is a family and you don't shut anyone out. PERIOD.

I think what you just said is ridiculous.

Thats it buddy...they are preparing all of the fans for our move to D2. Gotta "dumb" it down for us to warm us up first right?

I think its "completely illogical" to get all worked up before you even know what is going to happen.

The benefits to playing a game there, right now, seem to be outweighing the negatives in my opinion.

Cons - a couple thousand folks may not get to see AN EXTRA game this year

                            Pros -
                            - the benefit mentioned above to the bottom line.
                            - Any $$ lost by not having a few thousand folks may be offset by not having to pay the CC to be in their facility for a night
                            - Added student interest from an on campus event that could spark interest to go downtown for games.
                            - Great home atmosphere. (not a knock to the CC - just drastically different)
                            - The WBB and VB teams benefit from the sale of these 500 or so "priority" seats
                            - Place to host post season events
                            - We gain a little wiggle room in dealing with the CC
                            - Anyone who has ever taken an economics class would tell you that creating a little demand is NEVER a bad thing.

The old line of "I've been a season ticket holder for X amount of years" is getting tired guys. This is clearly a business decision meant to benefit the athletic department and not meant to tick you off.

If you want to go to the one or two games that'll be held at the new arena then get off your lazy arses and make sure you get a ticket.

Why don't we lay off the "retarded" comments and just wait to see how it all plays out.

If I get shut out of "the game" this year - I'll try that much harder to make sure I'm there next year.
