One thing that does bother me is that the practice facility in there is called the Men's Basketball Practice Facility. I know that the men are practicing there but from what I have been told, so are the women. I'm surprised with all the gender equality fights these days that Bradley would let it be called the Men's Basketball Practice Facility.

I am pretty sure that facility (the men's basketball practice facility) was funded by a private donation that was made specifically to develop and build it for that purpose. In that case, maybe it then is not necessary to follow the same Title IX garbage they usually have to follow.

From what I recall it was supposed to be named the Puterbaugh Men's Basketball Practice Facility, but you are telling me that they couldn't just as easily named it the Puterbaugh Basketball Practice Facility.
I know I have my reasons for noticing this and most people on this board don't know those reasons but it just doesn't sit right with me. Guess I'll just have to donate millions of dollars in the future and then I can get something named any way that I want

Up until a few months ago, it was called the Puterbaugh Men's Basketball Practice Facility, but now the name has been changed to simply the Men's Basketball Practice Facility.
Does anyone know why the Puterbaugh name was removed?

Old BU web page pulled from Google cache-
          Puterbaugh Men's Basketball Practice Facility

Now the same webpage, but a different name-
          Men's Basketball Practice Facility

I just can't believe that THIS is what we want ESPN to see if we were to play in the NIT. Seriously, I appreciate the work and effort and thought put into this, but if we ever get into the NIT situation, home games played here will be the laughing stock of the NIT tournament.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!

I disagree. Even if the attendance is limited to 4,500, that would be a bigger crowd than many of NIT games.

I also disagree. And I think the atmosphere would be second to none.

I did see Matson outside with his camera this evening too.

                    Question:
Here's a pic of the floor of the practice facility... -- there's only one 3-pt arc and it is NOT the right one for Women's college basketball...
so doesn't that maybe signify that the women practice elsewhere and that this one is strictly for the Men?

The arena floor however has what appears to be just one line, too but it IS for the women..

This highlights what I've been told. The men will practice in their arena and the women will practice in the performance arena....

I also tend to disagree, a lot would depend on the team, I think. For instance, the atmosphere for the Illini @ Stony Brook was pretty great last year.

And maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking that depending on the opponent, Carver might still be a possibility. In other words, BU is still good for 9K+ for a big name.

I've heard JL is actually very concerned that the atmosphere for the on-campus games might be "too good" and when the team goes to the Civic Center it might be a shock to the team at how dead a place it really is.

This has always been intended as a "men's practice facility" and Title IX doesn't restrict those in any way.

Nearly all BCS and outstanding mid programs have their own dedicated practice facilities.

I imagine there will be situations that arise where the women's hoops team might have to practice there (volleyball conflicts) or if both hoops programs make the postseason the men may have a game and the women a practice, graduation day, etc.

Come to BU where post season bb games will be played in your 'practice facility'.

Can't see how this would entice top HS players to choose BU over others in the Valey.

BU's only hope would be that tv coverage of NIT post season games played here would be tight, and not pan around the new 'gym'.

Too bad they didn't put a raised floor in the new facility, that could have helped the 'cool' factor....

Conspiracy Theory: Puterbaugh's decied to yank name after BU threatened to play men's BB games in the new 'practice facility' and cut off season ticket holders who don't pony up a second annual seat license fee to watch them there.

I dunno, a lot of the so-called "blue hairs" that have season tickets still like the NIT and view it as a prestigious title. A lot of them will be upset that the number of seats is far under the amount of Season ticket holders. I can believe that this venue would be large enough for oh, say, the CBI/CIT, but the NIT still draws pretty good teams and crowds.

Just look at this year's NIT: Illinois, Mississippi, VT, Mississippi State, NORTH CAROLINA. Not to mention Valley BU rivals Wichita and ISU. Now, tell me that it would be smart for BU to host a THIRD ISU contest, a contest that normally draws a sellout crowd at the 11,00 seat Carver, in a TOURNAMENT at a 4,500 seat arena. Or consider an Illinois or North Carolina. I can guarantee you that BOTH of those teams would be sellout crowds (although the Illinois crowd might be split if we don't pack the place first haha). That's like saying, "Oh, we're hosting Duke this year. Hmm, Let's put it in the New Arena and exclude the students and everyone else in the Metropolitan area that would go."
